QF - Brumbies v Highlanders

@SouthernMann It was the absolute lack of urgency in the final 20 minutes, win a turnover immediately kick the ball away, a complete lack of desire, walking to lineout, taking a full 30 seconds to decide which spot to take a penalty from. Complete absence of ideas on attack, serious lack of looking for out-of-box ways to get the backs involved, which is something that Brown always worked hard at and excelled even with the more limited squads in seasons past. He was innovative, Dermody, Dillon, etc. don't have a creative mindset.
What crap. The last play off game he was in charge of we lost by 29 points to the Blues in 2022. A Blues team miles behind the team that is the 2024 itteration. More limited squads than the kids in the team this year? Celebrate the positives of this year and enjoy the growth. Tony Brown is not coming back

@SouthernMann That 2022 Blues team wasn't bad. What was it, 14 or 15 wins in a row ...
-
@SouthernMann Brown is without a doubt our smartest coach, he was only coach to have higher percentage of votes by NZ players in player's survey than Razor, he took an NPC level basket case of a Landers team post 2019 exodus & shitty Mauger to fighting wins over strong Crusaders Blues Chiefs Brumbies teams and got them competing against the best regularly, an extremely limited roster and injuries hurt his record.

2024 Brumbies 12/14... not bad either. Also Highlanders in 2022 (under Tony Brown) lost to the Brumbies 17 - 28. Seems the Tony Brown coached team wasn't that good either.

Highlanders 15 couldn't catch a cold.
-
A bit disappointed in the end. Mainly because we did well in the first half.
However we aren't a great team yet. Brumbies are a very good team.
I give the season a C+. Middle of the table is our lot. Hopefully we mature next year.
I thought Millar has come on well over the course of the year. He could go well with another NPC season.

Yeah I didn't go into the full detail of the season when checking last night. The point was that with Brown, we still lost a quarter-final, and by more points.

haven't read the thread, we just looked limp other than Narekis try if im honest...everyone kind of looked like they were running in mud, not getting over the advantage line, not even trying to get onto the outside shoulder when we had the ball and let them get meters with every run

True for the second half. We were genuinely in it at half-time and were working to an effective gameplan. Once they adapted, we had no answer.

Yes, immensely fustrating game to watch. This group had the potential to do so much better. They let the Brumbies dictate terms and gave them too much respect, they're a pretty ordinary team and the Blues will have no trouble getting over them next week.

You need to put things in perspective
Highlanders had very young 10s - missing by fair their best midfield back, missing by far their best 8 in Renton.
Teams struggle to win in Canberra. They were undefeated there all season.
Not really the fern way……

100%. No issue with saying we gave it good bloody go. Then in the second half, the team with several international players at home ran over the top of us. Compare the two teams and about five of our guys would make their team.

Bang on mate.
Incredibly tough to watch at the time and I let it get the better of me but take a few steps back and let the result for a bit and you do have to remind yourself of the bigger picture. Did bloody well to be there and to be honest, I can’t imagine many of us saw us finishing 6th once the slump started on the Aussie tour.
All eyes on the future, 2 or 3 solid signing and another year in the jersey for a lot of the young boys and we should expect a similar(if not better) table finish but hopefully more convincingly and also have some closer loses. The loses we had against NZ sides really got away from us so if we could close that gap and really push for 2026 then I’d be over the moon.
Huge emphasis on bigger picture.
