Quay Park stadium for Auckland?
-
The other two were joke contenders.
Stuff with a scoop eh? EP to get a rook!!
I don't think a roof can be justified. Weather is a great leveler in sport. How teams adjust to conditions is part of the game.
Yeah it might be of use for a few concerts but at what cost?

i actually dont believe they take things like that into consideration, its all about the crowds and if a roof will get more people in the door

I don't think it will.
I've been to EP a lot over the years. It doesn't have heavy rain all that often.
I think the roof is a vanity thing. Keeping up with all the others.
Dunedin Chch yeah. Can be fucking cold at night Akl - not so much
-
@gt12 agree, if they insist on playing games at night in the middle of winter then a roof makes it so much more family friendly
-
im going to have to look into Quay Park more, i knew roughly where we were talking but went and had a look to lock it down in my head, came across some moc ups
the stadium itself is only about 160m x 180m...which is small, new christchurch is 180m x 220m
is the design several levels smaller in depth but greater in height or something, its just such a tight site!

I think a roof would be a great idea, I'd be way more likely to buy pricey tickets if I was sure that I, my wife, and my little boy would be dry.
Isn't there also a middle ground as in the new SFS where all seats are covered but it's also not a full roof?
-
@KiwiMurph i think thats just a minimum standard now days isn;t it?
-
@Kiwiwomble here is a top down view that provides a bit more of an idea of what it would look like
I think the tight measurements refer to where the stands meet the ground rather than the actual footprint. Having one end mostly open would save on footprint too.

Needs a temporary train station next door for match day transport. Would be O for Awesome.
Also, can't see it happening as no one has any money
there is a permanent station right there i think already, upgrade as part of the development

So how are they accommodating the rail lines?
-
i can only imagine underneath so the whole thing is elevated
-
They have to underground the rail and move Quay Street. So yet another two reasons why it will never happen. Defectively it's a commercial development with a wait there's more you get a free stadium! Once only offer!!!!
Problem is commercial development is as stagnant as domestic

Underneath. The existing (temporary) beach road station there will then service both the indoor Arena next door as well as the new stadium.
Every single rail line in Auckland converges on that spot. Western line, eastern line, southern line, the CRL line. I can't think of a better spot for a stadium. Also, the ferries are one stop away outside Britomart.
