There was a stream of this game and Petone with 5 professionals in their backline completely ran away with the game in the second half. Godfrey, Punivai and Clarke were electric. The latter has been in great touch for Wellington over the last couple seasons and could be a great replacement for Moorby at the Canes next year. Godfrey showing why the Canes should be looking at him as their future first five. Reminds me so much of a young Beaudy, his acceleration to the line on attack is something else. He’s got a way higher ceiling than Aiden Morgan.

I heard Te Rapa lost their game in the 80th minute after an intercept. Had a run around at Ngaruawahia at the Prezzies ten a side. On the couch now aching. Old Jimmy from Old boys Tech has come back for another year. The oldest regular active player in NZ club rugby at 81.
-
Huge result in Welly club rugby today, Petone beat Norths 88-14. Future Canes 10 Harry Godfrey at the forefront apparently.
-
Lol a little unfair having so much professional talent in that Petone backline. Riley Higgins with 3 tries playing centre, Punivai with three aswell and Godfrey with 1. Belgium Tuatagaloa (former Wellington, Canterbury NPC/ NZ Sevens) scored four tries.
-
@Canes4life Tuatagaloa also played for Samoa at the 2019 world cup.
Yeah that is a strong backing at that level. One of the Moana wingers Viliame Fine also plays for them when he's available too.
-
@African-Monkey same with Stanley Solomon (NZ Under 20s), Losi Filipo and Tjay Clarke (Wellington Lions), aswell as Lakai, Shields and Southall in the forwards. Could be the strongest club team in NZ if all players were available.
-
@Canes4life Lincoln University would be tough to beat with all players available.
Scott Barrett Fletcher Newell George Bell Seb Calder Jamie Hannah Cullen Grace Corey Kellow Jone Rova in the Crusaders. Then they have a few in NZ under 20s. Johnny Lee , Ben ODonovan , Liam Jack.
Also considering there have been the likes of Sam Gilbert , Ngane Punevai , Rameka Poihiipi, Connor Garden Bachop in last few years too.
Goes to show what scholarships do for your club.
Haven’t won a championship for a few years though. -

I went to watch the Marist-Varsity game as I was keen to see the new artificial turf. They call it 5G technology, which is a blend of artificial turf with sand and cork. The ball does bounce a little differently to grass. Varsity led 16-10 at HT.

I was prowling the sidelines for this win as well as the previous one. Believe me the long winless spell was made a bit more bearable thanks to probably the tastiest selection of tap beer in all the clubs in Wellington wonderfully crafted by Club sponsors and local brewery Waitoa little more than 400metres from the Axemen's headquarters. A lot of practice has been done over the spell to ensure the supporters maintained aftermatch function match fitness and goodness it was certainly needed until rather late Saturday night!!!!
