Hurley can surely only be considered as a replacement for Patchell who is still being assessed...so more injury cover coming in?
-
@Kiwiwomble From bad to worse. Harmon staying at 8 for the rest of the season is what’s best for this team. Was hoping Renton would come back and give us a bit of depth but now Haig gets a chance to step up and get some exposure(and whoever else they roll with on the bench).
Fingers crossed for Patchell but it didn’t look great.
-
@Kiwiwomble please not Hurley. We don’t need another undersized, erratic back. Having been a long suffering green island supporter, Hurley lacks any tactical house and lacks a cool head.

Given his size…he should be a halfback then

.Hopefully Stodart gets the nod in 20.
Absolutely. Hes one man we should be giving more minutes moving forward. Wouldn’t mind seeing him getting a start at 8 either to be completely honest.

Come on mate Hurley rips up at club footy whenever he’s in the field, it’s the next step where he struggles like we saw with Otago.
He’s been in the system long enough you’d think he would be able to do a job but based off the previous Otago season he isn’t ready for Super yet.
-
@Landers92 probably a broader symptom of otagos inability to upskill their 2022 u20s ABs. Lack of development is a real concern when compared with other franchises

Sheesh, Renton and Lowe must have spent more than half their pro careers out injured.
Boarding school toff softies.
-
Millar to bench or Taieri please. Gilbert to cover from bench.
-
i thought millar was fine, could have been better...no worse than everyone around him, happy for him to get another start and try and settle in
-
Nice addition this week by the ODT. This is the kind of stuff we are after, hopefully keep it up and see more of it.
Ps. Aware they do landers chat weekly, I just mean more often with coaching staff etc

Dwyer, while divisive does a lot of good work in this area, from club footy up to Highlanders (albeit not a huge amount with these guys). As I've said, what I'd like to see is the Highlanders work to promote the ODT aubscription side of things, especially with the long-form stuff like this. Do a video a week. Have it 30% on the Highlanders channels and then push users to the ODT subscription base. Highlanders can still do their small community/sponsor/training videos. The more subscriptions the ODT gets the better long-term partner they are for the Highlanders. Fans need to realise this.
-
why do we want the Highlanders to be pushing fans to ODT subscriptions when they could be putting out content themselves? surely a better social presence on which they could then have advertising would money in the Highlanders pocket rather than the ODT's

You answered your own question. The ODT is listed as a media partner. If they can improve the clicks and subscriptions on the ODT, they should be able to create a better agreement with them as a partner. The commercial arm should be driven to get more investment from sponsors and partners. While those investing should be wanting to see a good RoI for money invested. The main reason I hold an ODT subscription is for the Volts, Landers and Otago sport. While certainly reading other pieces too. If there was a link for Highlanders fans to become an ODT subscriber and show an uplift of subscribers from around the world, then it will be beneficial for both parties. There should be opportunities for other sponsors be have naming rights to other content on the Highlander's channels. The issue is local partners b golbal fans. What is the one of someone in Melbourne watching a video sponsored by Harrisons Carpet and flooring. Whereas there is a specific metric and benefit available for the ODT to take on the delivery and management of some of the longer form content

im not sure i did answer my own question seeing my question was why not own it them selves? i dont know many sporting organisations that do their engagement through a news agency, why would they voluntarily gate-keep or paywall their fan engagement through a third (supposedly impartial) party...seems a crazy idea if im honest
"you want to be a fan?!...you'll have the bloody well work and pay for it damn you!"
-
As well as being a news agency, the ODT should broadly be seen as a content creator. As I said, I'm not talking about all content. The fan engagement stuff, worknwith other sponsors, pieces other sponsors are willing to put their names to. Sure up on channels for free. It is judt if there is an opportunity to push a deal with a media sponsor, improve their revenue and potentially the deal they have with the team. It should be investigated. As for be a fan, you have to pay for it. Yes, nothing in the world if free. The Highlanders have a huge number of fans outside of the south, they need to work out how to get some money out of them. Rugby can't be supported by good vibes and hope alone.
-
you can be a very active fan for load/most sports teams for free....none of the teams i follow do i have to pay to learn whats happening
i literally have financial interests in AFC Wimbledon in the UK and i havent seen them live for 15 years (not for lack of trying but thats a different story)...getting money out of fans doesnt seem hard for other sports/teams...but basic news shouldn't be on the agenda

I'm not talking about basic stuff. All the basic content should be provided bybthe club, in partnership with other sponsors. I'm talking about indepth pieces. Player interviews. Announcements on signings. Analysis. The team is from the smallest population base in Super Rugby, it needs to be innovative with its income streams.
