Samoa U20s qualify for the WR U20 Trophy tournament in July. -
I read that eight of the Samoa U20 players have been selected to play for the Moana Pasifika U20s in the SR U20 tournament. I assume that some Tongan players will also make the squad, so the MP U20s should be stronger. The Blues U20s will beat them comfortably though.

Most of the out of town names were signaled in advance, with the exception of Shaun Kempton a hooker out of Rolleston. An article talked about how his dad sadly died last year prior to him eing named in the NZ Schools team in a workplace accident. Another said he had a spot lined in the Crusaders academy. Interesting he ended up down at the Highlanders. But looks like he was born in Invercargill.

Hurricanes Under 20s squad announced.

@Bovidae I’ve seen him play for Petone a couple times on the wing and he’s got plenty of gas. Almost Corey Toole sort of speed so hopefully you’re right and he gets a crack at first five. Sam Coles, Vernon Bason, Jack O’Brien and Tom Allen all trained with the Canes pre season so there seems to be plenty of talent in that side. Funaki also played for the French Under 20s side so it’s interesting that he’s in this side aswell.
-
@Canes4life The Hurricanes are missing their two best props (Newland, Wallace) through injury.
I will be interested to see the Barbarians squad as they tend to pick up some good players not wanted by the SR franchises. Remember that Tahlor Cahill wasn't wanted by the Crusaders in 2022 and ended up as player of the tournament playing for the Barbarians, and was selected for the NZ U20s.

@Tim said in 2024 Super Rugby U20s:
@Bovidae Interesting to see that Tristyn Cook has converted to loose forward.
Yeah, I noticed that. I would have thought he was tall enough to remain a lock. I'm pretty sure Christie has played 6 for the NH Dev team but he is still listed as a lock.
Rico Simpson is highly rated?
As I said last year, Simpson should have a big future. They might go for more experienced 1st 5s for the NZ U20s. There are a number of players in the squads I've seen so far who are in their first year out of school so will have 2-3 years developing at this level.
