I can't see an argument for a better player in world cricket than Pat Cummins
Best bowler in the world
Good tactical captain
Very useful bat who delivers in the clutch. He’s no all rounder but by crikey he delivers when they need him.

Time for a refresh, starting with the coach and captain.
when are we even back in white?
Pretty sure for Aussie this is their last test until hosting India next summer

We were always 70/80 runs short, with Southee leading the attack we are just treading water with an inability to strike as often as we needed to.
A bowling attack of Henry,O'Rourke,Sears backed by Santner as we need some one to hold an end down when the ball is old and Phillips is now a genuine option. That attack could bowl sides out cheaply, Jamieson when back then we have the option of bowling 4 quicks and not playing Santner.
Sorry Timmy but you are just wasting the new ball now time to gracefully retire. -
the series averages make interesting reading
Our batting is obviously complete shit. But theirs isn't much better. Cam Green's knock in the first the stands out like dogs balls. The first test is completely shaped by his knock. In the 2nd test Marnus gets 90 to give them a decent lead while everyone else fails. Then Carey and Marsh see them home.
If you had have told us before the series that we could have Smith, Khawaja, Head and Marnus all average less than 25 you would think we're in the game.
the problem is, 3 scores of 3 and one of 90 is probably more conducive to winning games than 4 innings of 25, for the same series average. -
If the 9 dropped catches stat from earlier in thread is correct , and for this test series only. So, making some big assumptions ...
Out of 37 dismissals. 24 were catches.
Don't know if Blundell dropped any of them. Assuming they are 9 dropped outfield catches. 7 of the 24 catches taken in series were by the keeper.
So, possibly that is 9 dropped and 17 taken outfield catches?

Could Nathan Smith also be an option? Pretty good new ball bowler? Handy bat.

Maybe good Cricketer maybe an allrounder option.
I don’t think he is an all out test strike bowler like the others I mentioned. -
Was hopeful but not optimistic heading into the days play given who Oz had at the crease, the way their tail plays these days and the fact that the wicket was only getting better for the batting side.
Agree with others that the biggest disappointment is the dropped catches. We simply do not have enough class (with the ball and bat) to drop catches. In my view we need take 90-95% of catching opportunities plus have a bit of luck go our way to be really in it.
Kudos to Henry for winning player of the series. Not bad in a 0-2 result. Time we found some proper support for him to really flourish rather than flash in the pan because we heap the pressure on him.

Sorry Timmy but you are just wasting the new ball now time to gracefully retire.I don't think Tim will go on his own. And I think NZC are too spineless to fire Stead. Only hope is Stead walks, a new coach comes in and, like Hesson before him, picks a new Captain and demotes Tim. It was always an odd selection choice, considering that Latham had been the 2IC for several seasons and was the logical choice to take the job when Kane gave it up. This is going to hold up any recovery for some time IMHO
