    50 up for KW.

    He’ll get 100 now

What a rookie move. You know what to do

He’d made 50 and we all know what his conversion rate has been lately. I thought it was a pretty safe prediction.

    I’m very disappointed in myself

Very unlike an Aussie keeper not to claim the catch.

Ravindra is so shaky outside his off stump.

Latham capitalises on his life by surviving to stumps. I still feel like we are one step away from a terminal batting collapse. But if Latham can continue, and if Ravindra can tighten up outside off, maybe we can hang around for a bit

    Good day for NZ.

Questions really are how long to bat and how much is enough?

I would approach it by time rather than runs scored; and look to declare midway between lunch and tea on day 4.

However if we are able to maintain a good run rate tomorrow we could declare an hour or so earlier.

Lead of 250+, ideally 300+ I would have thought. Currently a lead of 40, so getting there and putting them in by tea requires some positive batting. Maybe we could name that after the captain - Tim-ball or something.

This might be the most optimistic post in Fern history

So 22 wickets down in the first 2 days.

The plan is then to use the remaining 8 wickets that we have to bat a similar 2-ish day timeframe - actually less than 8 wickets as we plan to declare (more of a smackdown if we do that, kudos) - and give the Aussies a day and a bit to chase us down.

I like it sir, it’s very cunning and will show these Aussie bastards exactly what we are made of.

Alternatively, we could fold for 230-odd by lunch tomorrow, leaving them about 140 to chase and we can wrap this thing up inside 3 days

    If I was a betting man…

    Solid start today.

if you're watching, is Smith's movment legal? I argue not. I think he moves before the ball gets to Mitchell

Any movement by any fielder, excluding the wicket-keeper, after the ball comes into play and before the ball reaches the striker, is unfair except for the following: 28.6. 1.1 minor adjustments to stance or position in relation to the striker's wicket.

I think it is OK. The exception Smith will rely on is:

28.6.1.3 movement by any fielder in response to the stroke that the striker is playing or that his/her actions suggest he/she intends to play.

Mitchell is signalling a reverse sweep. At that point the fielder can move to cover it.

Ravindra the pick of our batters for the series. Not perfect, but he's played with confidence. Just has to learn when to leave

Mitchell is a busy, bustling kind of batsman.

This partnership is key. We have batting to come but I want these two to be there when the new ball comes. The pitch looks benign with the old ball but the pace bowlers worry me in any conditions.

You’re probably right but the fact you’ve picked a guy who got 0 and 4 speaks volumes about the batting this series.

The bar is low for sure. But he's got two 50s as well in a relatively low scoring series
