Fuck. That is so Black Caps.

A couple of changes and the team looks so much weaker.

No Mitch, no Kylo ... eek

@booboo well, two test rookies replacing strong performers will do that to ya.

I think we didn't respect the pitch and the bowling enough. Anyone who tried to hit (Wagner aside) got out fast. It was a 'run at 2-3 an over for a day' kind of scenario, and grnd the bowlers into the ground for the second innings. Young was the most egregious.

Hands up who thought the pitch would get easier to bat on yesterday and today? I did - but it's imitating a subcontinent pitch rigth now, and turning to shit fast. Fourth innings will be tough.

Also, don't forget India England tonight at 5pm. Test cricket from 11am to midnight = happy NZZP

One of them took a four fer. The issue isn’t the new guys, it’s the form of some of the old guys…..

….and as much as Santner did well last test it’s a a stretch to label him a “strong performer”

Phillips unable to bowl due to his Shoulder leaves us with just one spinner on a pitch taking spin not ideal.

I missed this. Was this an injury in this match? Or did he come into the match injured? (Because if so, that would have tipped the scales on retaining Santner for this match)

I'd expect NZ were complacent soming into this. match. In fact I wouldn't blame them, they are playing a D Grade South Africa, I'm complacent. If they lose, they'll (we'll) just have to wallow in their mediocrity.

Blackcaps have had a habit of complacency the last 3 years now. Losing to Bangladesh (after which Stead told us not to be arrogant and expect to win like All Blacks fans, pathetic). Then lost second test v a poor-batting South Africa a week after walloping them.

Stead has been re-appointed (without challenge). So, obviously no one sees a problem with anything, it's all hunky-dory.

On this particular test. Mis-reading a pitch is not complacency, so I'll give them a pass on that. Sometimes shit happens. I don't blame them for wanting a 4 seamer attack at home, it has worked.

On the selections. Jamieson is apparently in doubt for the Aussie tests.

There is complacency is in selecting the older guys who haven't been able to put in the prep.

We seem to be blowing a golden opportunity to finally get a series win of any sort against SA 😞

Should still be plenty of time for a result, I just hope it’s the right one !

Poor start with the ball, runs are coming a bit too easily.

Gonna be a long day for Black Caps supporters

Timmy's looseness to open the morning with, run wise. At least he's bringing Ravindra into the attack now.

Will’O again with a beauty to get Brand, who was looking pretty comfortable.

    Good stuff.

If they're all available, I'd pick Henry, Jamieson and O'Rourke for the first test vs Oz.

Southee, Santner and Wags can fight for the last specialist bowling spot.

Timmy should win that, but I don't think he should get the new ball.

Bedingham is the guy that really worries me - sooner we see the back of him, the better.

@Chris-B Southee is the captain, there’s no way he’s not playing and taking the new ball.

In the unlikely event that I'm appointed coach in the next couple of weeks he's not getting the new ball - unless it's going to swing mightily! 🙂

I'll be surprised if you're not correct on both counts.
