@Virgil as much as loath as i am to start ANOTHER 90s black caps bullshit chat
but for like a decade it felt like Pakistan toured every fucking summer, and those two just filled their boots against us.
They did. I went to a bunch of those one dayers and tests at Eden park in the 90s. We were pumped nearly every time. The ODIs were always low scoring games too
Wasim and Waqar, opening batsmen must have shit their pants when they went out to face them -

@KiwiPie
That would be Graham Gooch for the poms
hes scored 300 odd in one bat and followed it with a 100 in his 2nd.Best on debut is surely Lawrence Rowe.
His first three scores in tests were 214, 100*, 22.
Momentarily he averaged 336 - the highest for a player who has been dismissed at least once*.
*Assuming no-one has surpassed this in recent times - I haven't paid as much attention as I used to.
Not to mention he was allergic to grass which is a bit unfortunate if you’re a test cricketer

I'd give it to Kane, but suspect it will go to Rachin. Both deserving candidates, but I think two tons in the tougher achievement plus his second innings effort made it look like he was batting on a different pitch compared to the rest of the team.
Nope, Ravindra got it.
Well done son. First of many big scores I’m hoping

I think it would have been bloody close.
I just give it Rachin for the 2 wickets he got. Otherwise it would have been very hard to pick.
-
Tough on Kane but Rachin's knock dictated the flow of the game and made it almost inevitable what the result would be.
Williamson fails in the second innings and we had plenty of other batters who could knock off a quick 30-40 each to position us for the same overnight declaration.

Just read that Daryl Mitchell won’t play the second test, nor the T20’s against Aussie.
**Bit of a blow, but we have good batting cover in Will Young.
Or do they slot in an extra seamer and just push Phillips up to bat 5?**
Either option is fine I reckon. This protea team actually did well to get as close as they did.
Bring in Wags, everyone else moves up one. Or Phillips goes to five, Blundell stays at six. Whatever works.
Matt Henry to eight please, he has genuine batting pedigree.
I would really like to see Will Young get a go though in saying all that.

@MN5 where would Young bat? I wonder if they will be enticed to shift the out of form Conway down and open with Young.
I wouldn’t be surprised whatever they do but all of those are options.
The good thing is with the emergence of Ravindra there’s much less of a “oh fuck, Mitchell isn’t available” feeling……
Conways form is an issue though. I put it out here that he might be in danger of being replaced by Young anyway and he didn’t do himself too many favours against SA. A duck and a streaky 29. Not ideal.
