@nzzp What was even more shocking was McCarthy not running down the clock by running the football. A get out of jail free card there.
He was notorious for it at the Packers. Good coach in so many ways, but he and Reid used to get rightly mocked for clock management.
I almost had a clock/cock typo, which is kinda funny, and kinda juvenile humour. But I smirked.

Mike Tomlin now 17 seasons as a head coach and never had a losing season.
He had a lot of years with Big Ben and bunch of other talent, but the last few years the steelers have had very little talent and he's kept wringing out every last bit of performance. He's low(ish) key one of the best head coaches in the league.
Ironically, that success probably hurts the steelers. With league average coaching they'd be looking at top 10 or even top 5 draft picks and might be able to get more talent in.

Florida State got fucked this year. Won out, but those games weren't good enough. And they lost their starting QB (ignoring they won their conference championship game without said QB).
The whole thing is a disgusting sham.
Florida State got fucked by Georgia 63-3 in 5th vs 6th.
Whilst Bowl games outside of the semi finals are a waste of time as so many players opt out it's hard not to think the Committee got it right in the end (at least in terms of leaving Florida State out - Georgia might not be too impressed) - two cracking semi finals.

YOu have to love the NFL season, 17 games means there are very few times when any regular season game means fuck all.
Sure, a couple of teams got to sit everybody today, but they had already done the hard work. But there were a lot of games today that meant everything. The jags losing suddenly put them out and a couple of teams in.The final game of the season is pretty big for both Buffalo and Miami. For the Bills, win and they host the Steelers. Lose and it's a rematch at Miami. For the Dolphins, win and its host the Bills, lose and its off to KC.
Niners and Ravens get next week off.

@mariner4life been a good fun year. DAZN came to the party for me - their app worked really well considering.
Draft order largely set now - Bears pick twice in the top 10.

And tomorrow is Black Monday, where a bunch of coaches start looking for new jobs.
Biggest name being thrown around is Belicheck, which just shows that even legends have a shelf life when the wins dry up.Obviously Las Vegas, the Chargers, and Carolina already fired their coaches, but who else makes a move? Washington, Chicago, maybe Atlanta? The jags losing today might have got their coach sacked too.

Rivera from Washington the only other (and super predictable) casualty. Stays of execution for everyone else.
Interesting rumours from Pittsburg that Tomlin isn't in the gun, but may "take some time off"

Vrabel is a good coach, and that's a terrible firing by the Titans.

Titans fire their head coach Mike Vrabel.
Huge fall from grace.
Vrabel will suddenly become an option for these other teams (Patriots immediately come to mind given his connections)
Panic firing. I'd laugh if Vrabel went to NE, and Belichick went to Tennessee

i read a few things that suggest it wasn't really coaching performance, it was not seeing eye yo eye with the GM about the team's immediate future. GM wanted to trade and bring in draft capital, coach wanted to keep players in a win-now type arrangement.
in that case probably fair, you need united purpose in a league with that little room for error
-
@mariner4life He got a bit shafted by his GMs in his time.
They trade away AJ Brown
They drop a huge contract on Tannehill
Now they don't want to compete.

that's big news in Seattle. Pete, for all his energy, is pretty old, and the Seahawks need a rebuild, so it's a good move i think.
Of all the open gigs, Seattle looks good. Chargers look good on paper. Raiders wouldn't be bad either.

Rumours at the Eagles won't go away either, he could be coaching for his job this week
