Seems like those Saffas really don't like playing test cricket. This game might not last 100 overs.

India lose their last 6 for 0 runs in 11 balls - and the victims include Rahul, Jadeja and Kohli!

107 overs -the least ever in a test that gave a result.

Markram 106/176 in SA 2nd innings.

    Markham almost broke the Bannerman.

Other cool stats heard on Final Word:

    • Elgar dismissed twice on first day of his last test.
    • Stubbs dismissed twice on first day of his test debut.
    • first time ever a team batting 3rd passed their first innings score before the end of the first day.

I read the Aus CEO (Hockley) has been a bit triggered by SA20 and proteas tour clash that he is concerned enough about health of test cricket that he wants to get ICC to make all test series which make up part of the WTC to be a minimum of 3 tests.

I'm not sure the 2 things are related, but by fuck that would be the best news for test cricket since I can ever remember.

Also talked about the big 3 redistributing some money. But, yeah right, we'll see how that goes.

In the last ICC revenue distribution deal, the Test Match Fund got disbanded. So, could see it as redistributing money they (big 3) 'stole' in the first place ...

FTR, nz was too big to benefit from that fund. Was aimed more at the Zim level.

so, countries will host 3 tests no one shows up to, rather than 2? that'll fix it.

Cricket South Africa remove their Under 19 Cricket Captain simply because he is Jewish. Appalling racism and deeply shameful for the self-styled Rainbow Nation. I hope the ICC and other sporting bodies take swift action.

Given that the ICC threatened to suspend Khawaja for wanting to express sympathy for the civilian casualties in Gaza, Teeger's comments seem to be pretty comparable, and I assume he refused to back down. Similar to some of the bans for Russian athletes supporting the war in Ukraine too.

Why stop there ? I reckon T1 would be terrific. I could eat a hot dog or a punnet of chips in a single over.

@Cyclops Teegar faced no discipline for his comments. They were made before the Israeli attack on Gaza. They were made in the aftermath of the October 7th pogrom to express thanks to the Israeli army for keeping his relatives safe.

Teegar has been deposed because people are now threatening him. They are threatening because he is Jewish. Shame on Cricket South Africa, Saffa sports fans and the South African nation for not standing up for one of their own.

@Cyclops Why on earth should he "back down" for expressing his gratitude to people who were risking their lives at the time to protect his relatives from murder and rape by terrorists? Since when did we expect a 18/19 year old kid to be some sort of political spokesman anyway?

He's been sacked because of his race. He should be apologised to and reinstated immediately.

I'm trying really, really hard to see the logic and compassion behind the decision that because a Jewish young man was being threatened for their safety that somehow stripping him of the captaincy, putting out a statement and making an international news story was going to make him or anyone else more safe. But I can't.

And don't give me any of that "This Is Africa" shit. Cricket South Africa is shaming sport.

    What did he say?
    When?
    Genuine questions.

Was it during an ICC sanctioned event?

On a more general note why is society scared of the thugs? One group wants to protest, others want express a contrary opinion. Teegar's opinions run counter to the thugs. Who is threatening violence? Teegar? "The Jews"?

I can see this coming up with the planned Palestine flag waving rentamob at the Basin Reserve. If someone perchance wants to show an Israel flag to show their feelings I'm prepared to bet on who is getting kicked out for inciting violence.

Stripping Jewish cricketer of captaincy marks new low

Stripping Jewish cricketer of captaincy marks new low

Sport always has a political dimension, and nowhere is it starker than South Africa. One of the great symbols of post-apartheid reconciliation (so sentimentalised that a film got made about it) was the 1995 Rugby World Cup, in which the white South African captain, François Pienaar, received the...
