    welcome to International Cricket.

I love Test cricket, and I am sure it will find a way to survive. It's what the players generally want to play - if money isn't an issue. This seems to be mainly a scheduling screw up by SA - their players are contracted to the IPL owned teams in SA, who are obliged to play the local tournament. They wanted to reschedule; NZ did not. SA should not have scheduled a test when their players weren't available.

What I don't know is if this is the thin end of the wedge, wiht franchise cricket trumping internationals outside the IPL. I'd be surprised if it stacks up financially - but who knows. All NZ can do is destroy the touring team (fingers crossed) and see what happens.

Australia and England spent decades organising international cricket to suit themselves, so I have little sympathy when they're getting it back covered in rupees. NZ and the other minnows are realistically just getting dragged along with the power plays of the bigger associations.

This test will be lucky to reach the weekend - rain might delay it enough I suppose

Is it just me or in the days of T20 cricket do batsmen just throw their wickets away more regularly now in test cricket? Could be confirmation bias.

This Aussie attack is a fucking ridiculous as a long established foursome.

Hazlewood the only one not to 250 wickets, and even he is only 6 off. Lyon obviously past 500, Starc closing in on 350. Cummins with the best record of the lot, 256 in only 58 tests, averaging 22.
Total combined record of 1,348 wickets at 27.

@mariner4life I would quite like to see this Aussie attack hurl them down at the current Aussie batting line-up.

i don't think the batting lineup wants that.

Cummins just filling his boots on this tour.

third 5 wicket bag in a row, 18 for the series at like 11.

Same as the 6N for Rugby. "Nothing wrong with things the way they are. Why would we have less substitutes? A 20 minute red card? Encourage attacking play? Revise the maul in any way?"

The pitch is pancake flat but, nonetheless, Jamal has done fabulously well and great support from Hamza - holding up his end.

Jamal has his highest score in first class cricket against one of the best ever attacks.

Pretty amazing grouping. I’d say at a guess the Windies pace attack of the 80s would average a bit less but it’s pointless comparing eras in one sense and I can’t cut and paste the cricinfo article anyway so fuck it.

    Good stuff Australia.

Slow going for Aus today, then lost both their openers. Looks like no more play today thanks to light and then rain

the problem was the soft as butter australian who found a tiny object on the massive screen and stopped play. not SCG's problem, twitchy Smith's problem.

Game is crawling long, Aussies on go slow but also dropping wickets. Old mate's 82 looking even more like a gem of knock now.
