From this article about review of 2023. A stat that jumped out at me:
New Zealand continued to do New Zealand things - with or without Kane Williamson, who featured in only 14 of their 61 internationals in 2023.
Although, later in article when the list the results records. It is 'only' 58 matches , not 61.

@African-Monkey That's probably a good thing, bc that Transvaal team of the 80s contained some of the most insufferable players in the history of cricket (Clive Rice, Ray Jennings) who viewed themselves as the best in world even they never played OZ and WI sides.
-
To much delight, the Firebirds notched up another win against the Northern Brave last night to extend their lead at the top of the Super Smash table. They will only get stronger with the return of the ‘Beast’ Michael Bracewell who will want to push for BC selection again. He’s apparently up for selection against Auckland on Thursday.
Hoping Otago notch up a win against the Cantabs today.

@Canes4life
Matt Henry due back for a run this game or the next.
Tom Latham and Kyle Jamieson due back as well for Canterbury. -

@Punch_up In fairness, they would have killed those Aussie sides of the 80s as they were at their weakest then.
How they would have fares against the Windies of the 80s will always remain one of Cricket's great mysteries.
Yeah it must be said Paddles might have struggled to get 15 wickets against a side captained by S Waugh or Ponting. He’d probably probably have to settle for 12 or so….

@Chris interesting, I’m hoping Welly also get Conway, Milne and Ravindra then.
They should get Ravindra back he was not selected for the 20/20s v Pakistan

Rachin Ravindra wasn’t considered as a replacement for Williamson in the third game, as he begins a period of rest after being on the road with the BLACKCAPS since the beginning of August, a decision made by NZC in conjunction with Cricket Wellington.
They mean on holiday touring, apart from the WC where games were spaced out at too big an intervals he has hardly played just toured.

@Chris I am interested in your opinion on Sears. I have watched him a few times these past few weeks and to be honest I am not sure if he will have a long Black Cap career. I know he allegedly bowls mid 140s but jeez it looks like it takes one hell of an effort for him. His action appears awkward, like an action that is an injury waiting to happen. I haven't seen him get much movement and again maybe because of his action, he is not exactly accurate.
I hate being negative towards the kid, but he has been talked up a bit in the media and I haven't seen much so far to justify it. I would love to be wrong.

i said the same thing about Bumrah when he first arrived on the scene. All that explosive effort in the last few strides i was sure his shoulder was going to come apart.
31 tests and 132 wickets at under
3222 he seems to be going okay -

Hey Mate
I know what you mean the load up is all out of alignment and the follow through looks like a stress fracture waiting to happen.
He seems to get his pace from the long arm extension and snap through the wrist.
I have seen a few bowlers with not classical actions, some have had injuries and some have gone through their careers with very little.
I think he will need to stick to the short form game as that action will not sustain long spells of 20 overs a day in test cricket,
2 or 3 over spells would suit him.
He may be ok for one dayers if they can use him in a 4/3/3 split but I think his pace may drop dramatically in the last 3 over spell.
Definitely not an in to the wind bowler his frame couldn’t handle that and his pace would drop off by 10/15ks I reckon.
Refreshing to see a Kiwi bowling mid 140s though, I hope he stays fit but that action is a worry.
