TSF Team of the Year
-
The rules as they currently stand:
- Nominee must have played at least one Test Match
- Form in all levels of rugby is admissible as evidence, but please refer 1
- Nominees must be backed with some decent reasoning
- Stupid nominations and suggestions will be mocked pitilessly
- Good nomination will be welcomed
- All other rules made up as we go
The TOTY Committee (i.e., me) is the sole judge of fact and law (even if this phrase is no longer in rugby’s laws), and may continue to use the same weak dad jokes that have been used for decades.
Will get back to close nominations and set up polls in a week or two or three, and try and wrap up voting maybe sometime before things get too crazy with Christmas.

Planet Rugby's version. I had to laugh about 12, the text says Jordie, title Aki
12 Bundee Aki (Ireland): The story of tight calls in the centre berth continues, with New Zealand’s Jordie Barrett, Springboks’ Damian de Allende and France’s Jonathan Danty unlucky to miss out on our selections. But when Jordie played 12, New Zealand fired – he has become absolutely crucial to their go-forward and he takes the shirt by a tight margin.

After much excitement and anticipation the 2023 TSF Team of the Year has been finalised and is summarised below.
Although results have been available for … a while, the TSF TOTY Committee has pleasure in announcing the following team:
World Champions South Africa only manage to provide two of the starting lineup, which may have been an indication of their ability to produce at greater than the sum of their parts, but more likely their ability to suck the life out any game of footy they got near.
Ireland’s 18 match winning streak resulted in an equally surprising two representative, although they were rewarded by recognition of the architect of their undefeated run to the RWC knockouts, with coach Farrell getting the nod as mentor.
France and New Zealand both ended with five in the starting XV.
Only England’s Courtney Lawes (somewhat luckily in front of Pieter-Steph du Toit) made the team from outside of World Rugby’s top four ranked teams.
A number of voting anomalies were identified amidst the admittedly low voter turnout:
- Gregory Aldritt’s nomination did not make it to the Poll, however as no-one complained it is judged to be tough shit Greg, better luck next year.
- It is noted that the Committee’s own vote for blindside flanker was cast in error for Courtney Lawes, instead of PSDT, giving him a case of PTSD, but again, as there is no opportunity to amend the vote Lawes sneaks the blindside position.
- A couple of dudes names were spelled wrong
Thanks for joining in. Further stats follow.
