Car/ute advice please.

@Dan54 Sounds more like it for 2wd with reasonably high KMs (although I wouldn't be too worried about that). I paid that for my second one (a Hilux surf) bought about 5 years ago. 1998. 250,000km but mint condition. Flash wheels and rubber worth about $2500 (got stolen so know what they were to replace). Now done 280,000 and only thing I have done is new exhaust. Same as the ute one I'm doing now.
Have a good look for rust. My 2004 ute had some surface stuff on chassis that was easy enough to sort out (caught early) but they get it in the door sills and that can be a bit of a major.

Are Landcruisers a thing in NZ. Perfect vehicle for the OZ environment, latest models with a few extras now well over a 100k though
Yeah, the 24 valve 80 series really hold their value here . Shame the 70 series goes back to four cylinder next year.

@mariner4life GFYs.
I miss @jegga He was a hiluxophile and would not have stood for that sort of shit either.
Actually, you saved yourself a very nasty stay in the cellar with the last bit because I agree with that (although you are out by about a year. 19 would be better).
You're not wrong. Last year the local toyota dealer somehow got the impression I have money and gave their hilux demonstrator for the weekend while my van was getting serviced. Compared to the 78-05 models they are incredibly fat and soft now.
You should look into the legality of towing your digger. The police lost the money from speed cameras to Waka NoMahi so they are looking for new revenue streams and a crackdown on trailers and towing is on its way. The tow rating of a 2wd lux of your era is surprisingly low but if you've got a winch and bullbar you might be over the towball rating .

@Snowy Thanks mate, I meant to be having a look today, and will take notice of rust etc, fella I getting it off says there is a smidgen of surface rust, etc, but obviously I need to look myself.
If its a diesel take it to a diesel mechanic for a look first .The 5l engines last a long time with proper servicing but the cost of getting a fuel pump replaced for an electronic injected version is pretty eye watering.

@jegga Yo bro, say hilux three times and you appear!
I have only been in a few later model hilux and yeah, had to agree with mariner (and you) about the later model ones. Also too bloody fancy for me. Had electric windows and shit. Can you imagine? How fucking lazy do they think I am? I thought mine was flash with a wireless.
Interesting vid. Becomes a bit ridiculous really. I certainly can't get fat or have a passenger with me. Panel beater mate warned me about driving characteristics with weight of winch bar so got one that is basically just tubing and quite light. Tow ball download bit makes it interesting though. I got lucky there because my ute was used by an earth moving company to take engines, parts, etc out on muddy building sites so they had beefed it all up and has the upgraded springs etc, that he mentions. Wins in life are scarce, so I'll take that one.
All very similar to aircraft loading weight and balance stuff. A cop would have to get very technical to have me over limit with my digger!
Good to know that you are still alive and lurking.

Well just a boring update, went and had a look at the 2002 HiLux, all was good, well as you could expect for a 21 yo ute. Then I got in and went for drive and have discovered something!! So obvious different to you @Snowy .
I have turned into a spoilt soft old bastard, I looked at wife said this goes ok, but I too used to driving comfy cars etc, and even for the little I need ute for, just maybe I will look at a newer vechile of some make that's a few more mod cons!!! So maybe back to drawing board, still want ute etc, but maybe stretch $s etc.
Think I may have to put this post in grumply old men thread??

@Dan54 Haha. I refer you to my first post - " Goes anywhere, does pretty much everything (except transport anyone in comfort). "
I have bolded relevant part for you. So not different to me at all, I just don't expect air con when I drive it, I wind down the window (literally).
I have a limit of about an hour in it but I'd rather do that than tow a trailer for an hour and have to unload it (having a tipper is bloody great). I also have 22 acres that I move stuff around on. Plants, firewood, etc and nothing else gets the job done like the ute. Even the tray on the tractor is a bit of a pain because it's not that big and I usually have some other implement on the back like a mower, box blade, etc.
So horses for courses, but you appear to be getting away from your OP -"run a bit of rubbish to tip, throw a scooter or likes on for golf etc, so basically just local stuff. ".
This should meet the new requirements:
**Aventura
Topping off the range is the Amarok Aventura complete with a 3.0-litre V6 diesel, 20-inch alloy wheels, X-design front bumper, exterior chrome styling accents, body-coloured sports bar, LED matrix headlights, leather seats including heating, a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen, a Harman Kardon premium sound system and ambient lighting.More driver assistance features have been added to the top-of-the-line model including Advanced Park Assist and a surround view camera.
The Amarok Aventura is priced at $90,000 MRP.**

@Snowy yep mate, I freely admit I have changed course a bit since first post, bugger it all I didn't realise how soft I got. Just thought I would leap in an old workhorse and clunk around, but it's different when I got in, so apologies for leading all up the path, even if accidently. I thought I was thinking of something like my HiLux workmate I had in Aus, which was obviously on reflection a bit later model than I thought. Was fairly basic 2012 model I thought, and just perhaps 3 years out of it has made me either forget that earlier ones weren't as comfy??
This age thing is the pits!! -

There will be a V8 in the future but WHAT- automatic transmission!
