Fair play to Fiji, hope they go all the way. Faarkin Safa ref didn't do us any favours-shocking display.
-

Well, at least we made the "finals" I suppose. One win from four games. What a disgrace.
-

shouldn't make any kind of finals after losing 2/3 games in pool play, shows poor formatting!

Fiji, your time is now, go for Gold!
-

I don't think I've seen any NZ sevens side look so completely lacking in attacking players and/or pace. There wasn't really anyone you expected to break the line or dash away for a long range try. They basically looked like the Crusaders backlines of recent years minus Nadolo.

I didn't rate their chances much beforehand but 1 from 4 is a shock.
-

My expectation was a bronze medal, maybe a silver with a kind draw. BUT if you don't win your pool you risk playing one of the favourites in a QF.

I haven't seen either game today but it will be interesting to hear the spin by NZR. A catastrophe like this should force NZR to make some tough decisions regarding the coaching and training structure of the sevens programme. If nothing changes we won't see any improvement.
-

I listened to the game on the radio, and to me it sounded like Fiji had the ball about 5/7 mins in the 2nd half, a few 50/50s that didn't go our way, but when you are down, luck does not fall your way either.

Oh well, have NZH revised their medal predictions recently from what they were pre-Olympics?
-
Yup Rieko had a terrible tournament - barely beat a defender in 4 games.

It reminded me a bit of past AB World Cups where teams would rise to the occasion above their standard self and NZ get caught. -

NZH predicted a bronze for NZ, which is not completely out of the picture yet, however unlikely it seems.

What is the strike rate on this so far?

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11684418

As far as I can tell most of our predicted medals are still yet to be played out.
-

While it is disappointing it is only 7s and I wouldn't want to see Super rugby or god forbid the All Blacks sacrificed for it so not sure how much of a rethink can be had other than a new coach and allowing our superstars to jet in when they have a window.

It might actually be a good thing and teach Akira Ioane not to be such a dickhead and he might be able to make the All Blacks.

Worse part is the shocking decision a few seasons back to allow these teams to be called the All Blacks. Kind of flew under the radar at the time but it could end up hurting our reputation and losing us a bit of money in sponsors.
-

It's gone. We just lost the quarter final.
-

Seems Sir Clive Woodward has been laughing it up on the BBC coverage which alot of other countrys pick up and really hammering home 'The All Blacks' lost to Japan, 'The All Blacks' are out at the quarter finals, 'The All Blacks' only won 1 out of 4 games .

As for the strike rate, of the gold medal hopes, Villumsen and the women's double sculls cannot medal. Lauren Boyle is well off her best and is unlikely to get a medal at all. Women's 8 and lightweight double sculls are unlikely to get a bronze.

Honestly, those predictions are terrible though. Ko may be favourite in golf but she still has a very low chance of actually winning it. Villumsen was never going to be the favourite given the time trial course had a big climb in it.
-
