The majority of the squads are already known (either under contract or have been announced via SM) now so it's really only the last 6-8 players that may be a surprise.

Yes, to full on tragics, but nice to have it all in one place for your average supporter

Back in the old Super 12 days they always released them together - I remember sitting around with my mates (pre Fern days) and discussing who made it and who missed out (the squads weren't as well known then as now - sometimes the players didn't know).

we did much the same, then because we didnt have smart phone you'd go around people you know at uni from around the country asking about the players you didnt know

Highlanders used to have load of last minute drafts...not the best players but a little but exciting

I got a genuine question. On an Aus rugby site there are a few get upset and say all teams should be named on a Wednesday night for weekend's games. I will say I don't have a problem with teams getting named 48 hrs before they actually play, as teams tend to be more accurate , as you know how they have recovered from last game etc.
Am I crazy or is this really an issue, I have never spoken to anyone who finds it a problem etc, but that just could be me and people I know. Generally would rather wait auntil the team know who is actually fit enough before naming team, as quite often players (as in tests) are given until thursday etc to check on niggles etc.
I am prepared to say if is actually a problem, maybe it could be looked at, but as in WC that just finished did anyone really find it a problem that teams got named on different days?

I like that it's staggered. Fills in the latter half of the week nicely, something to look forward to before the weekend's matches.

i dont think its a problem....but there is a difference between a "problem" and something that could be "better" everyone knowing when both team were going to be announced just looks a little bit more organised or professional, it would add a little bit to the vibe around a game and supports things like fantasy teams etc

@Kiwiwomble I understand that, but I actually think that the earlier you have to name team, the more chance of changes to team named because of teams that play on say a Sunday etc quite often have to see how players are getting over niggles etc, and then it looks amateurish with more changes. Though as you say for those that pick fantasy teams etc maybe handy etc, and I fully admit to not doing any of that. Also probably like @Mr-Fish I like them staggered as WC when I actually enjoyed them coming out on different days.
Could also be because of my age I may forget them after a couple of days??😧

@Dan54 to be clear, not worried about them being announced on a wednesday or thursday or sat morning, more just that it is regular and coordinated

    More important dates:

EXPANDED APPAREL RANGE KEY TO NEW ‘CLASSIC’ NZ SUPER RUGBY PARTNERSHIP

EXPANDED APPAREL RANGE KEY TO NEW ‘CLASSIC’ NZ SUPER RUGBY PARTNERSHIP

EXPANDED APPAREL RANGE KEY TO NEW ‘CLASSIC’ NZ SUPER RUGBY PARTNERSHIP Heritage jerseys, expanded product ranges and quick turn arounds are some of the features exciting the five New Zealand Super Rugby Clubs having signed a collective five year agreement with Australasian apparel brand – Classic....

"Super Rugby NZ apparel will be available through the Super Rugby Club Stores from December 1, 2023, with all major sporting goods retailers also stocking the product."

"The flexibility of Classic also enables the introduction of heritage and special themed jerseys, something which is commonplace in leagues like the NBA and NRL." ....I'm a sucker for apparel, anything that looks good with the Chiefs logo, i'll buy it (still gutted i missed out on the limited edition '96 throwback Chiefs jersey adidas had out a couple of years ago):

So that Heritage jersey won't be so limited now. At least the originals have a number (out of 300) on them.

@Bovidae so many fakes of those out there anyway but yeah at least it's made by Adidas so you know it's the OG heritage. I have 2 of them and 2 if the original 96.
