    @Bovidae good idea. I kegged the russian imperial stout today. It's like a thick engine oil.

    Go Black! Will have one with breakfast tomorrow ... can't wait

    My stout got bottled about a month ago, we’re holding fire on even trying it as we want it to age

    well, I wound up having about ten through the day. Really easy drinking. Not sure the keg will last long - it's silky syrup. Really tasty

    After some experimenting, I think I have the 5L beer keg things sussed. St Peter's Brewery IPA Beer kit; bin-fermented, then secondary ferment in 5L keg with 12gm of sugar for carbonation. Six week conditioning and into the beer dispenser. Should keep for 3-6 months according to the interweb thingy.

    Def. not a beer expert, but it tastes great and gets the thumbs up from those who know their beers. May do all grain kit next...

    @Victor-Meldrew Porters are fantastic to brew - they are incredibly forgiving if you're feeling your way into the process

    That set up looks sweet @Victor-Meldrew, flasher than mine !

    Me being me I’d be inclined to brew less than 20 litres to get the ABV up a bit.

    @nzzp am I correct that Porters need a higher temperature to turn out decent much like stouts ?

    We’ve moved brewing operations into my Garage now it’s a bit warmer ( even in Welly )

    It's just a standard 5L beer dispenser. I re-use 5L kegs with reusable bungs and pop them into the dispenser like store bought kegs. You can set the temperate you want dependent on your beer.

    @MN5

    There's a great buy. For this years neighbourhood Christmas piss-up, we're getting 2 or 3 together with different beers in each.

    Good times!

    ……and with the cost of beers these days who wouldn’t ?

    I love how high the quality is, for a fraction of the cost you can make a brew that’s pretty damn close to something you’d get from a top Craft brewery.

    I do love surprising mates and family with how good it is considering they pretty much expect it to taste like uncle what’s his names shitty home brew from the 70s.

    @nzzp Pretty hard to screw up a kit! Open the tins, top up to 35L, add in the hops/enhancer, sprinkle over the yeast and leave in a warm place .

    Thinking of progressing to basics with an all-grain kit, so will take your advice and pick a porter. .

    @Victor-Meldrew you'd be surprised!

    Kits to Allgrain is like jar curry paste to 'made from scratch'. Both good, but one has flavours that really 'pop'. If you have space time and the urge, you won't regret it

    Yeah my brewing partner and I are toying with this idea. Our argument against is that we already make beer that is pretty fucken good and we do go a bit “mad scientist” with what we add ( chillis, rum, coffee, chocolate )

    We’re not quite sure it’s worth the extra effort ?

    @MN5 The kits from the smaller craft breweries use exactly the same stuff as the breweries use. Like you, people are really surprised at how good it is.

    70p a pint is hard to beat, Especially when it keeps for ages.

    Not usually an issue for me. I’m too generous when people visit, I need to be more stingy so I don’t have to keep re brewing !

    @nzzp My beer taste-buds are limited but I'll probably do 10L of all grain this winter.

    @MN5 I like the idea of having a number of different beers in smaller quantities so I can vary things

    I hear that although I have Sabre single hop IPA, Chili Pilsner, Coffee Stout and soon to brew more Pink Grapefruit IPA. A nice wheat beer after that then maybe another Stout to age for a few months. My main issue is needing to buy more bottles all the time.
