@frugby So who’s the replacement lock for Dunshea?
And there’s two centres to sign, Telea was only rumoured not actually confirmed yet
There are injury replacements for Dunshea and TUJ, but these won't be full-time signings.
Tele'a not confirmed, but I'm pretty confident with my intel here... and as I've mentioned it all sort of adds up.
This isn't to say that there aren't other things going on, Bogado might not return, Lowe might have come to a late mutual termination, but I think the rumours around the Ta$man stuff was just T.L.O.M.B stirring shit on Facebook, and it got a lot of people including myself!
As for lock, there was no word of anything as of yet so we will see. They've only just found out he is injured, so it will be about surveying the lay of the land.

@HLD2023Champions still clinging on to hope there’s a Peter Umaga Jenson signining in the near future. Has anyone heard any news around that lately?
Not happening. One of the great rumours.

Don’t forget Millar’s injury aswell
He good to go for Super Rugby.

As for a lock replacement. The return of the great Tom Franklin would not go a miss. Hopefully JJ is already in his ear.
I floated this, will depend on whether he has already signed a deal with MLR... this is one of the problematic things with such a late injury, can be quite hard to get hands on players.
Could easily end up being an S.O.S to someone like Romano, or a player not up to it like Hill.
-
With the Dunshea replacement. I'd yhink they'd be smart and just bring in Stodart a year early. Both he and Max Hicks can play lock.

They're just wildly speculative statements, but particularly in the case of Bogado I wouldn't really be that surprised. He could almost certainly get better money in Europe, and depending on where they view Gilbert his gametime might be severely limited.

Where's Ale Aho now? Injured? He is still young but he has some size for a lock.
He is listed as being apart of the high-performance programme, but didn't play for the U20s this year, and is not eligible next year. I guess we will see how he goes in club rugby.

but I suspect Tele'a was probably signed some time ago (as I say, hence the Telea rumours, think people probably got the two of them confused).
Remember it was initially one of Telea, Clarke or Rieko haha
If you have got Tanielu Tele'a it might turn out good. His biggest problem has been trying too hard because he's constantly coming back from an injury.. even when fit his chances were limited because he had established options ahead of him. So he would force passes, get himself offside etc etc
On the positive side he is ridiculously strong for a midfielder and will run hard and straight

I think they questions for Tele'a is will he work well outside a distributing 12 like Gilbert. Is he likely to be able to put away his outsides in Nareki, Tavatavanawi etc and can he be trusted to defend well. If he can nail those tasks, yeah he sounds good.

Highlanders squad is basically locked in!
We failed to close the deal for Slater, Ricky Jackson will be the third hooker. We are now incredibly weak in that position from a depth perspective.
Matt Whaanga is the injury replacement for Thomas Umaga-Jensen as was long rumoured. Josh Timu is expected to be fit for the start of next season also.
-
@Chris No names have been mentioned, and as there are literally no options locally it could be interesting. There is the potential they bring Stodart through a year early and just use Hicks there, but I think it is more likely they will look for someone like a Shalfoon.

Locks seem to be the position that most teams need to fill, but there are a lack of experienced locks available.
If Dunshea was fit, I actually think that is a fair set of locks, but yes, the injury throws a spanner into the works.
