So much for the regular season. Three of the four teams who won 100+ games (Dodgers, Mets and Braves) didn't even make it to the LCS. The Dodgers had the best record in MLB. Hopefully, if Cleveland does the job another of the top teams will be out. The NLCS is between the 5th and 6th seeds.

@Bovidae As a Dodgers fan I am gutted that we didn't make it through to the NLCS. Such a huge disappointment after a history-making regular season. This will certainly leave a sour taste in the mouths of the Dodgers faithful for a while. I couldn't understand Roberts' decision to pull Anderson after the 5th at all yesterday. It just didn't make any sense. Some fans are saying it's time for Roberts to go.
Andrew Friedman has got some important calls to make this offseason including whether they continue with Kershaw. Trea Turner becomes a free agent and there will be a number of clubs eyeing him up for sure but it will be whether the Dodgers can afford to keep him as he will be looking for a massive deal or if he wants to stay or return home to the East Coast. -
This feels like the most appropriate thread.
Japan won the World Baseball Classic today over USA.
A match up for the ages to finish the game with the 2 best players in baseball going head to head. Japanese captain Shohei Ohtani pitching the 9th inning against USA captain Mike Trout. 2 out in the 9th inning with a 1 run Japanese lead.
The quality of pitching here is insane. Especially when you consider he's not purely a pitcher and he's not a closer who normally pitches in the 9th inning. 100+ mph fastballs and a nasty slider to finish.
Ohtani and Trout now team up for the LA Angels in the MLB season which starts next week.

@KiwiMurph Japan has been baseball crazy over the last few weeks. I usually don't watch baseball but I have been riveted to the TV urging Samurai Japan on. It has been bloody brilliant!
Shohei Otani has ice in his veins. While in Japan the pressure to perform has been just nuts. But he went out there and performed while whole stadiums were chanting his name. Comp's MVP. I can't hammer a nail if my wife is watching! -

This is really sad.
Oakland have lost all of their pro sports teams now.
It's a miracle they stayed as long as they did

Postseason well underway now.

@KiwiMurph And the meme is make the playoffs and exit the first round. Good for him. At least the Dodgers are there and abouts. Anaheim just does not have the mentality across the board to win.
Mike Trout must be thrilled. You would think he would get the hell out of there at the next available chance

Well he has underwhelmed and is injured often so if the Angels could trade him I wouldn't be opposed. When he came into the league he was slimmer, contract and power hitter and moved around the bases. Now he strikes out in important situations, has power, lost some speed and declined in general with batting percentage etc.

Crazy money for a 29-yr old.
Ohtani will earn more each season than the current Oakland and Baltimore squads.
A player you could build a squad around if you had any money left...

They've actually deferred the vast majority of Ohtani's contract so that they can build around him.
Only $2 mil per year of Ohtani's contract will be paid over the next 10 years - the remaining $68 mil per year is to paid out between 2034-2043.
