Southland v Hawke's Bay
-
@Stockcar86 Not sure of the year but you have the details correct. It was an utter trouncing here at McLean Park by about fifty points in summerlike temperatures and in the final it was the polar opposite, at least conditions wise. We shivered our way to something like a seven or eight point reversal that meant we were condemned to yet another season in Div 2.
I was also present at Rugby Park for a midweek(?) game in 1981 when we pummelled them 21 - 17 in equally atrocious conditions as we took ownership of the leadership of the first division points table for that season! Was hard to see come full time as it was rather dark at 4.00pm in June, the hip flash got a good working over in the successful attempt to ward off pneumomia. From memory that team was coached by Neil Thimbleby and managed by Paddy Donovan. -
Good halfback clash - Weber v Connor McLeod
-
NOBm v Hastings

Southland have not taken any of their penalty shots at goal yet, even though they were eminently kickable. They must be expecting HB to score a few tries
-
Titatia throws another forward pass following a break from a dominant scrum
-
Gregory dropping it just like he did for the Highlanders
-
Carried back after good chip kick from McClutchie. Scrum 5m out from Stags line
-
Expect a pushover or penalty try here
-
Free kick, we elect to take another scrum
-
Twice now the ref has said play the ball after the Southland scrum disintegrates. Kaifa scores anyway
-
Conversion is good. 7-19 to the visitors as the boos ring out
-
Restart did not go 10, scrum from halfway. Great break from Grigg but it breaks down, halftime
-
At halftime they have Southland first 15 walking around with the national championship trophy. They are pretty staunch, wearing shorts
-
FYI Higgins, first try was Thompson from a driving maul. Ash Dixon would have been proud
-
I'd like us to be up by at least 20 before we sub our starting front row
