Left arm chinaman (wrist spinner). Explains why it ripped so far.

HIs name is Sandakan too - apologies for the typo above. But yeah, that would have got me, too...
-

I would rather Raval open and have Guptill at 5. If Guptill has a future I don't think it is opening. Nicholls looks quite average to me but if you pick someone you have to give them a decent chance.

Which Mike Hesson certainly does. I agree that he doesn't look test standard but Hesson will most likely give him around 10-15 tests to prove himself.
-
Caught the highlights as missed most of last nights play. Fuck the people that put those together are amateurs...

Kane will be annoyed that he missed out on the ton, but it was a decent bit of cricket to get him out. Rosco has a chance to bump ahead of him on the 100s stakes tonight.

Good to see Latham make hay. Guptil played a poor shot well away from his body, disappointing way to go.

Like others I'm far from sold on Nicholls, tends to ride his luck a lot. Though I've been a harsh critic of Munro, I'd quite like to see him given a shot at 5, he has pretty amazing domestic stats.

Re: Guptil at 5, I've advocated for it in the past and the counter argument is that he's better agsinst pace then spin. Though I'm not sure you can hide from spin no matter where you bat so it could be worth a try. -

Top call. I've been wondering myself if he isn't basically a newer version of Astle. 5/6 is worth a punt.

Completely agree with that. A guy with his limited overs stats has to have talent in the longer form too. McCullum and Ryder spring to mind as openers in ODIs who thrived by batting much lower in tests.
-

Stats nerding up a storm here - Williamson (average now 49.73) and Latham (39.91) scored well but fell 22 and 3 runs short respectively of hitting averages of 50 and 40. KW of course was provisionally over 50 prior to getting out. He needs 22* or 72 in the second innings to get to 50 but he'll be lucky to even get a second dig in this game. More likely he needs to pig out in the second test.

-

I think it's technical. Goes far too hard at the ball and nicks out far too often for an opening bat. He's not great against spin either so I don't think a move down there will achieve much. Unfortunately he's just not test standard but am not fussed with him staying in the side as I doubt Raval or anyone else coming through will do any better. His fielding is a bonus I suppose.

-
Cripes, Watling going nuts, 50 from 85 balls.
That's pretty bloody rapid for him, he'd usually be on about 30 from that many balls.

These two going along nicely at lunch. Rosco in sight of another ton.

How long do we bat for? Another half a session and try finish it before the day is out, or just keep batting and get in some practice for the SA series?

I'd prefer the latter. -

on a side note.. sri lanka win by 106 runs.. LOL
who wouldve guessed after being all out 117 in their first innings

Haha that's hilarious -
How shit are the Zimbo's graphics/coverage.

All they show is the total score on the graphic at the bottom of the screen. Showing the current batsmen's scores and bowlers stats could be quite handy... Especially the bowlers stats, coz I have no fucking idea who is bowling...

Edit: And all those details pop up just as I post that. Want any other tips Mr or Mrs Zimbabwean tv director? Just PM me. -
There is Rosco's 14th test 100.

Seen that milestone, I can go to bed now.

I'd be disappointed if at least one of these two don't bat the rest of the day - Taylor a double, or BJ a 150 odd, with Satnav chipping in with a 40 or 50 not out too. -

The whole production is amateur. Poor old Jerry must be wondering what he signed up to.

My favourite bit is the countdown from the director/line producer which you can hear on occasion when they come back from an ad break.
-

I heard jerry signed a contract for 20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 zim dollars. I reckon if he'd bargained harder he could have got a further
3,000,000,000,000,000,000 to
4,000,000,000,000,000,000 zim dollars.

Zimbabwe already 4 down after Boult grabs two in a row and brings up 150 wickets for his career.

Was watching the match in a pub in Melbourne on Thursday night (when Mendis was batting up a storm) and my mate was saying that it would be funny if Sri Lanka came back to win the game..... some bloke next to us said that wouldn't be happening. HA!
