well compacted sand is great till it liquefies.
Seriously though, reclamation is hard. Singapore does a bit of it, so do the Netherlands. Dubai is a fascinating place - but I have no urge to visit

look, if I had enough money to race and crash range rovers in the desert after smashing soft drinks, it'd be great fun - but I just can't get excited. SO I guess I'm not a Sheikh.
I so wanted to make a 'no great Sheikhs' joke, but I didn't

Dubai is mega expensive, but it's a great place to visit.
A few friends who live there certainly enjoy it, but none of them rave about it. Peronsally, it's a little bit perfect for me in that it doesn't really have a soul and reminds me a lot of Macau. It's all sounds a bit cliche, but there's only so many cloudless days, expensive boozy brunches & over priced, fake, sporting facilities that I can take.
Zero tax would be awesome though - not that I can complain after 13 years in Hong Kong!

Niue is worse, so many empty buildings. Why? Cos they got access to NZ passports and an airport and 2/3 of the pop left

Civilisational decline
I've been a fan of urban/ industrial decline ever since I saw the unfinished Sheraton in the Cook Islands.
