2023 Hawke's Bay Club Rugby

That was the best atmosphere for a club rugby game I have seen. The Harris stand was almost full, with more maroon than red supporters, most of which were pretty vocal. The momentum swung multiple times - it was all Taradale for the first 10 minutes, then tech for the next 30 to take a big lead into half time. Tech scored again a couple of minutes into the second half, to take a 24-8 lead and it looked all over. Then Taradale came roaring back to take the lead, Tech took it back, then Taradale scored again with a converted try to have 5 point lead with 3 minutes left on the clock. Taradale messed up the exit with a knock-on following the kick off, and Tech through multiple phases looked like they had scored under the posts, but the referee called the grounding a knock on, but there was a penalty advantage to Tech, who eventually got the winning try to draw, then then conversion to win the game.

@Magpie_in_aus I can confidently advise you were not forgotten in the celebrations and our "shared" hangover is, thankfully, a thing of the past, although there will probably be more celebrations to come at some stage later this week (the old body struggled manfully to get through yesterdays one!)

Some familiar names in this team line-up.
If they're playing league now, does that mean they'll not play for the HB Development team anymore?
Or is this a one-off? I don't know anything about the rugby league comp in the Bay, so no idea where it's at. -
@Stargazer Very brief mention of it was made in relation to the usage of the Mitre10 HB Regional Sports Park on Ross Holden's sports radio show this morning. It was mentioned that there are five games of league (two reserve grade and three premier grade) being played there today along with the Tui game plus the NZ Short Course swimming championships so parking could be at a premium. Other than that there was no mention of how long the league season was going to be.

It's good that the league comp is up and running again, and could be a good way for Udy-Johns and a guy like Thompson-Dunn to maintain match fitness in case they're needed later in the season.
Hopefully it doesn't suggest that Udy-Johns has been told he has no hope, even with injury, so is just going to play league instead.

Bring back Tomoana Tigers - THE league team of the late 70's early 80's.
Flaxmere Falcons all the way.

Not too many rugby players amongst my outfit but plenty of tricky spin bowlers that your guys could not handle!!!!

@Nepia Oh yes there are, we have some wonderful eateries up here nowadays. Here is another one of my guys sides chock full of even more tricky spin bowlers (looks like mainly Sri Lankan but definitely from the Indian sub continent) https://www.playhq.com/new-zealand-cricket/org/hawkes-bay-cricket-association/senior-summer-202324/waipawa-butchery-div-2b/game-centre/29d43947
