AFL 2023

i did read an interesting theory that the top 4 are in a slump at the moment as they are in the middle of a huge "preseason" training load for the run to finals.
-
I love that one, because it's always rolled out when a team has a few losses. Wallabies have been using it lately.
It's a lovely thought as a losing fan, to think these games are being deliberately sacrificed to obtain greater riches down the track.
'Actually, winning these games is the sucker play. The true smart operators lose, and have their momentum grind to a halt right before finals/the World Cup'.
-
i don't understand elite sport enough to know if it's even a real thing. I always imagined early wins allowed a certain amount of freedom at the back end, and training loads to be real.
If it is true, then i expect this weekend the top 4 to be flying again, as you wouldn't want to wait too long to build your momentum. If it's bullshit it will be very easy to tell.

kind of feels like it doesn't add up....i kind of feel by this point in the season...and if youre towards the top of the ladder then you must have been doing well....youre not making big changes are you?
was it 2018 that buddy was reportedly only training 18min a week, basically a captains run and the game, thats all he had in him with injuries but he knew what his job was and was still kicking goals
-
Collingwood win another single score game and basically lock up top spot.
Brisbane fend off a very good Adelaide, move to 2nd. Have Collingwood at the 'G next week
Port beat GWS and have two games they should win left
Melbourne lose, Carlton win their 8th (!!!) in a row. Still can't finish 4th you think, but it's an incredible run
Saints win and now should play finals
Sydney win and go back to the 8
Bulldogs lose but have a percentage boosting bye this week
Geelong need to win out to make it, over the Saints and the Bulldogs
Adelaide could easily win out to make it.Awesome season and the finals are going to be epic

And that's us done for the season.
-
i dunno yet. 12 wins should get you in. The Crows have Sydney at home and then West Coast. Win both and that's 12. they also have a pretty good percentage

I'd just gone off the reporting that the Crows needed to win to stay in.
Haven't really worked out the permutations and need to have a closer look at who's playing who between us and 48 points.
But the following will have a big influence:
A win to either Essendon v Giants guarantees one if them at least 48.
Geelong v St Kilda another big swing
Melbourne beating Swans last round would help.
Will have to support Collingwood v Essendon as well.
Less difficult supporting Blions v St Kilda
Edit: Cats v Bulldogs
Bulldogs also have the gimme v Weagles
-
NicNat gone
Riewoldt goneNeither surprising, but jesus some guns and stalwarts have hung them up this year

Some of those drawn games may prove costly at the end for some of those teams

If the lions are going to do anything this finals series
Cam rayner needs to play like this every week until the end of the season
-
The Lions have become a bit of a bogey team for the Pies. They’ve now won their last 6 against the Pies.
-
Wow, a couple of crackers today.
Suns were absolutely dominant in the first qtr against the Blues and got out to a 40 point lead. But then lost by less than a goal.
Swans were on cruise control up by plenty against the Crows and then Crows went nuts. Swans held on by a point.
My mob made the Cats look pedestrian but our accuracy let us down. I’ll take a 33 point win any day of the week, but felt we should’ve won by 50+ the way we played.
-
One round left, and it's pretty clear.
Collingwood will finish top 2 no matter what happens this week. They play Essendon, who can't make the 8
Brisbane can finish anywhere from 1st to 4th, and they host the Saints
Port can jump to 2nd and host the Tigers
Melbourne can also jump to 2nd and are away to Sydney.
That's the top 4, lose and you will drop down. Imperative for Brisbane to host their final.Carlton won their 9th straight, and host a desperate GWS in the last round. Even a loss will see them hosting a final
Saints are in.
Sydney aren't in yet, but they have the best percentage of the chances, so they just need to avoid getting flogged this week
GWS and the Bulldogs are the other teams pushing to get in. The Bulldogs have to go to Geelong and must win. GWS just need to match the Dogs' result (and they play last so will know what they need to do).Geelong and Adelaide dropped out with their losses (Crows are feeling very cheated)
-
Carlton in the eight, what a time to be alive. Good win against the Suns when it's clear we weren't at our best.
Hard to pick who wins the flag from here. I can't see a team from outside the top four winning it. I'd probably back Brisbane at this point if they can finish second and stay at home until the GF.
Collingwood looking very shaky, can't be great for confidence heading into September.
-
swannies with 6 on the trot, couple of close ones but winning at the right end of the season

Carlton and Sydney just continuing to win while others fell in a heap really changed that ladder aye?
Just on form you have to say the top 5 are the only ones capable of winning it.
-
@mariner4life i love the fact geelong have missed finals and sydney have just snuck in, yes teams like collingwood are on top and also did really well last year...but its not a completely predictable
Giants have gone from 16th to 8th, St Kilda 10 to 6, Port 11 to 3
whats even better is the change during the season, bombers, dogs and cats have all dropped out since the mid point of the season (R12)...so ya cant give up as it s long season
-
it has been a bloody good H&A season
even a team like Hawthorn, that only won 7 times, beat both Collingwood and Brisbane

If they are in the game come the final 10 minutes, even with the injuries, I don’t think anyone will want to play them.
Finals involving the the Pies aren’t played at Marvel so there’s one upside for them!
