Mid-week NRL news
The Cowboys rolled the dice on getting Holmes off and it didn't work. They effectively gambled on the final round game against the Panthers so in my eyes the risk/return was worth it. By all accounts it was a shocking attempt at a defense though.
Gus Gould continues to try to turn the Bulldogs in to the Panthers. Not be developing from the ground up, but by signing all their players. They've now got Salmon coming next year (weak gutted Bulldog person) joining Crichton. They also signed Taafe from Souths. Back ups galore. And they are rumoured to be trying to get the Panthers' back up halfback.
The Dogs could very easily be up there in the "disappointment of the year" stakes given the hype around their new coach and their signings. -

I would support this if the Roosters hadn't self imploded. I had them as my smokey to make the eight, based on money spent and reputation of Ciraldo.
-
yeah they aren't a patch on teh Roosters (or the Sharks)
but the fact is everyone expected improvement and they are 7-13 with the worst F/A in the league.
-
lol, my bottom two teams included Dolphins and Newcastle (at least Tigers and St George close by) with Roosters and Sharkies at the top (with Penrith and Melbourne). Clearly my crystal ball wasn't great ..
-
@mariner4life Yep, they've been disappointing, not Roosters disappointing, but below par none the less.
They still haven't addressed their 2 biggest problems at fullback and halfback and Blake Taaffe certainly ain't the answer there. Their middle also needs improvement, Burton has been poor, Kikau hasn't played, and their centres aren't up to standard (Crichton should improve things there if he turns up interested). They seem to sign in all positions except for the positions that need strengthening.
Quite Ironic that the other Panthers assistant Webster has been the star considering Ciraldo had all the hype, similar to another of Gus' faves from years gone by Trent Barrett.
-
Word was that Crichton is coming to play fullback because he wants fullback money. Maybe that thinking is changing with the signing of Taaffe.
-
fucking settle down Warriors
They just emailed me Grand Final ticketing information. I don't remember them doing that last year...
-
oh also
i read a really funny report that Freddie Fittler is going to get another year as NSW Origin coach
-
@mariner4life Yeah interesting one that. I did hear that too but didn't take that suggestion too seriously. I thought Addo-Carr was originally signed to play fullback as well but was never tried there. Couldn't imagine Taaffe going to the Dogs if he wasn't gonna get a go at the back to start off with at the very least.

Desperately dull game last night
Klein blew the pea out of the whistle. Manly didn't show up. The Roosters weren't "back" they just got handed an opponent that was below their best.
Neither side is dead yet, but it would take the continued collapse of the Sharks, and Holmes being out wrecking the Cowboys.
As an aside, it was a really nice change to hear a trip to the Warriors described as being a tough path to the finals, and meaning Manly must win this one. I am not used to that
-
@mariner4life Manly losing their starting prop early to ACL when already down in front row stocks didn't help either. Manly were off their game thoughI agree.. Garrick also had his leg strapped and didn't look like he was running freely and Schuster needs to physically asset himself more. Frustrating kid to watch, you can see the talent he has, just floats in and out of games though.
Warriors need a big game away from home tonight, hope its forthcoming.
