@canefan Mrs TR was in one of the countdowns here on the weekend, and a dude had filled his trolley and just walked out of the shop, didnt rush or anything, like he had every right to.
Staff arent allowed to touch them, and unlike Pak'n'Save up here, they dont often have security, so people just watched him walk out, load up his car and drive off.
If it was me, I'd have put a trolley in his way to stop him, but then you also dont know if they will pull a knife on you.
think it was about the 3rd time she has seen someone do that, and TR Jnr who works at Pak'n'Save, said they get people try to walk through all the time, has had staffed attacked when trying to confront them.
People just dont care because there are almost zero consequences for them if they get caught.
No way. Seriously? No way.
How the fuck can a society function if people can get away with that?
I cant believe I’m asking this question, but what the fuck are the cops doing? Pulling ppl over for going 55 in a 50?
I am more than happy to talk to you about what the 'cops' are doing if you have any questions. Things are not as easy as it seems from your keyboard.
i would love to chat to you about what is happening in Cairns.

@Frank
The issue as I see it is the overall quality of the people making the decisions.I mean in this day who the fuck would want to be a politician?
There are only a handful of genuinely competent people spread across the whole house. It's almost like we need a wartime cross party government to sort out the issues but that will never fly. Instead of which we get the blame game and endless talking and watered down idealogical cant.
labour are still blaming the last National govt FFS. The sad thing is it's occasionally true - the current state of our roads was predicted by Waka Kotahi when National rolled out their Roads of National Significance a decade ago. The programme was always underfunded even before cost blow outs so the maintenance budget has been robbed for 10 years.
Meanwhile Nats come up with soundbites rather than policy and try and stir up support by shit like Maori road signs. They really don't have any alternative. The last thing they want is people to go into detail and discover they are as bereft of ideas as Labour. Or at least ideas that stack up. Luxon has been going on about 1/3 of NZ's unable to pay their mortgages because of interest rate hikes. When he was told this morning on the radio that this defied logic as only 1/3 of NZ's have mortgages and only 1/3 of them have had to remortgage he just kept repeating the mantra because he knows it's the soundbite that wins elections irrespective of whether they are total fabrications.
I really despair. I have always felt an obligation to vote but faced with a choice between Labour who have fucked up everything they have tried to fix and are all about centralized power in Wellington and National who are a shambles and bereft of any idea but will seemingly sleep walk the election on the basis they are not Labour....

Roads of National Significance
the good old 'Holiday Highway' is a prime example...National pushed for it (as a road of significance) Labour labelled it a holiday Highway for Aucklanders heading north (not the 300k of people north of it who might need it for goods/products or heading south) and I see after only recently opening there are major issues with the land slipping under one part.
End of the day, this comes back to a lack of investment by successive governments over decades, not just the last few cycles.
I see 4 teens arrested following theft and burglary...same shit, different day
-
The hurried policy announcement with no actual timetable or detail reeks of shameless desperation after years asleep at the wheel. If there was public outrage regarding continued rules governing self isolation for COVID 19, Labour would wind that up. But there isn't so they sit on their hands

One theory is that it's career politician's with no real world experience and no real understanding of how policy works in reality the ones stuffing it up. They do know how to look good in the media and generate soundbites however. Policy however? Gracious no - provided it sounds good that's the most important thing.
The theory is however is that it's very risky trying to be a career politician, certainly nothing is guaranteed hence it tends to attract 1) rich people or kids with rich parents who can bail them out or 2) highly ideologically driven individuals who don't particularly care about "their career" but care a great deal about their ideology and implementing as much of it as possible.
So were left with a void being filled by less and less people with real world experience and people with more and more extreme ideology.
It most probably over-simplifying a very complex problem, but there appeasers to be a few stands of truth there.
Politics certainly seems these days to be style over substance - though I can't say I blame them, people seem to vote for style over substance in which case you're simply giving the people what they want...
Personally all I can do is vote for my "least worst" option.

Social media elections, which is why the Greens and Labour want to allow those under 18 to vote.

It's a very well documented trend that people go from being socialist's in their younger years and move towards capitalism once they have to start to earn their own money
An acquaintance of mine was right in with the Green party during his youth/school days, went to parliament as a young green etc. etc...now he works for EY and wouldn't vote green in his life...

The Greens have gone from being idealistic to very ideological though. You would have to be in a post-modernist cult trance to want them to have power these days. Quite sad really, from a focus on serious issues like child poverty, etc to now, trans rights and other positions that naive but financially well-off people can have. There is no party that represents financially vulnerable people anymore.

We best raise the voting age then... 😉

PIJF gone . Probably an argument in the days of declining media revenue to retain it for things like court reporting.
Some outlets in particular Stuff and the Herald made fools of themselves with the crap they put out due to this . Fortunately the Spinoff who was one of the main recipients they had no credibility to lose .
Stuff trying to pretend there was only a perception they’d lost impartially is hilarious. They were shit before they just became exponentially more shit once they were on the govt teat

Any party with that ghastly Marama Davidson involved in ANY shape or form gets bit fat no from me.
Did she ever face repercussions for her “CIS white male” rant ?

Nope. Unless it was from the CIS White male she's married to, but I doubt it

Another serial rapist got home d, he wants permanent name suppression because he doesn’t want to labeled a serial rapist for the rest of his life.
Call me old fashioned but a serial rapist should go to jail and be labeled a serial rapist for the rest of their life

A rape can only be committed by a male.
It is a transphobic hate crime.

Not a labour fanboy. But vote for them purely for selfish reasons. Her position is untenable. It is up there with Darren Hughes' departure a number of years ago. She won't be back in parliament.
