Ashes 2023

Marsh making the English pay for their dropped catches. Yes, it’s Mitch Marsh.
-
Australia starting to motor

I think any faint hope Eng had of getting back into the series ended in this session
Totally agree. Heads are down, bowling pies now.
-

Not so sure. Tests so far seem to swing from looking dead in the water to being evenly-poised every couple of sessions or so.
-
Take your catches you idiots
-
Root better score a double ton
-
Yay a catch
-
Mitch Marsh and a bunch of scrubs v England
-
And Bairstow thinks about picking up a ball which falls near his stumps.
-
@voodoo And @MajorPom. To clarify my first post - stating "it shouldn't have been out" by invoking spirit of cricket or similar.
@voodoo said in Ashes 2023:
On the “take advantage “ point, that’s a lazy example from you sir! Being clumsy and overbalancing is very very different to this situation - getting out stumped or LBW or any other way because you’re clumsy (also called “being a bit shit”) is pretty damn normal in cricket, and is usually significantly contributed to by the bowlers skill. In this instance however, we have an average delivery, well left by the batsman, and a clean take by the keeper, who normally tosses the ball nonchalantly to 2nd slip. This time however he sees the batsman not waiting the extra second, and takes advantage.
It was my response to invocations of The Spirit of Cricket claiming Bairstow wasn't trying to take advantage, therefore spirit of cricket.

Was a good battle between Wood and Labuschagne last night. I wondered how the tail might survive against that pace, and was unsurprised to wake up to find five out became all out very quickly
Random stat: just read Mitch Marsh has as many Ashes centuries as Ian Botham!
As for Bairstow, he probably fits the attacking batsman model more under McCullum, but...

Two from Jonny and two from Joe. Catches win matches.
Can't predict what would have happened beyond Mitch Marsh flogging them to all corners for another 106 runs, but it basically saved our bacon when he decided he had a life and would stop giving fucks.
That innings was basically “Fuck you NTA”. He’s a big fan of the fern and has read what you’ve been saying and wanted to show you he’s actually test standard. Just wait til he bowls, five for coming right up !

Now that is a surprising stat.
I thought Bothams whole legacy was built on his amazing Ashes.
One of my all time favourite players ever but perhaps he is a tad overrated ?
I’d want Foakes playing just so we could have a batting order of Stokes, Foakes and Woakes.

While being too lazy to look up the bowling stats, spells likes of 5/1 at Headingly come to mind. One of those guys who was a world beater when he decided to turn it on. Or not so great late career or after a late night...

Yeah I have a 100 greatest cricketers book and he is in there. I think for the first half of his career he averaged 23 and 38 respectively then 30 odd and 20 odd in the second half.
Like I say, “perhaps” and I absolutely loved watching him.
Also no tons or five fors in ODI which is a huge surprise as you’d think that form of the game was tailor made for him.
