These stats to me really indicate what a legend KW is.

From memory he had a bit of a typical kiwi batsman start, ie a couple of big scores to indicate he might have “promise” but not much more than that. The kind of guy who might be as good as Nathan Astle or Craig McMillan one day.

Up there with Ross Taylor ? Pfffft, no way.

I just took the last ten years off his career on cricinfo…..on this day ten years ago he had played 22 tests for an average of 31.86 with three hundreds. Real standard Black Caps specialist batsman return there. His improvement is mind blowing.

I saw a bit of the Irish innings last night. This deserves a mention:

If true, it would set Jos up for life, but not a good sign for non-franchise cricket

White Ferns are currently in Sri Lanka for a series of three ODI's and three T20I's. Unfortunately it took an injury to Jess Kerr, but finally someone in NZC saw some sense and brought Leigh Kasperek back into the touring squad.

ODI #1 saw Sri Lanka win a rain shortened game (29 overs per side) by 9 wickets with an over to spare.

Today is ODI #2 in Galle with the White Ferns batting first, and with Suzie Bates becoming just the third female player to reach the 150 ODI milestone. Sophie Devine scored 137 & Amelia Kerr 108. White Ferns 329/7 at the completion of their innings.

Netherlands have Sri Lanka in a bit of trouble too. Van Beek with 3 of the early wickets.

The White Ferns series has a free live feed on the official Sri Lank Cricket YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@srilankacricket

Sri Lanka now 35/4 after 7 overs. They opened their innings with 5 penalty runs on the first ball, but I'm not sure what the circumstances were.

A very distinguished opening pair in the current West Indies v Sri Lanka game.

Switched randomly to the SL v WI match in the WC qualifying tournament.

    (Understand WI are out ...)

And a SL bowler is doing the side arm Malinga thing but about 10km/s faster.

    Looks quite dangerous.

In terms of taking wickets AND collecting peeps in the helmet.

Raises a question about how low you can sling the arm.

Is getting dangerously close to "under arm", whilst still presenting a bit of a threat.

    Any thoughts?

@booboo He does look like a bit of a nightmare to bat against.

Just skimming https://www.lords.org/mcc/the-laws-of-cricket/no-ball - presumably it's okay so long as the arm remains straight when it is supposed to be... and I'm seeing no specific references to round arm, so maybe it's okay going as low as horizontal/so long as it doesn't look like underarm (21.3)?

Sri Lanka and Netherlands qualified for the CWC.

Windies won't be there, which is a mighty shame, but they didn't get close. Ireland didn't even get out of the initial pool stage. Zimbabwe and Scotland miss out to the Netherlands on run rate.

Sri Lanka unbeaten in their pool and Super sixes. They play Netherlands in the final. They've got a couple of strange bowlers.

It takes a lot to outdo the David Boon runout.

Waddle is awesome - what a fantastic effort to get him out of retirement. Ditto Smithy - radio should supersede TV (once again) for quality commentary.
