Tsingtao - imported Chinese Lager/beer, pretty generic, could easily have been speights, lion red or similar.
Probably got little or no hops in it.
Tsingtao is one of those beers best enjoyed in freakish hot, humid conditions where you are fooled into thinking you're drinking something nicer. I thought Kingfisher was great for a similar reason but try really enjoying one of those WITHOUT a curry and you'll be astonished at how bland it is. -
Last night i had a few of something called Carlton Dry: Fusion. One of those beers brewed with lime already in it (and salt?). Was refreshing enough (its hot as shit here at the moment, so being cold and wet was a good start) but didn't taste much like a beer, and while not too bad, i got sick of them after about 6. Still have nearly a doz in the fridge i will fob off on christmas guests.

NZ Pure Lager, along the same lines as Pure, although probably a better flavour

Yuck, I can't stand those beers that have got fruity flavouring infused in them.

Had a couple of nice beers just before Christmas.... Epic Mayhem, Emersons Bookbinder and one other I can't remember (the bottles are buried too deep in the recyling too.

Santa was kind enough to bring me a couple of bottles of Epic Armageddon IPA too <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> -

I can't remember exactly which major nz brewery released a peach flavoured monstrosity in the late 90's but they were giving them away at the Fat's one night. I was skint, they were free and many, resulting in the worst hangover of my life and a fear of peaches. -
sure it wasn't Hampstead Heath...

Have seen a number of ciders appearing from alot of the boutique breweries, and for someone who is not a fan of Ciders, some are pretty damn good! -
Can I stick in an oar for "Isaac's" Cider by Macs? It's quite good. If you like cider, that is, and I do because it reminds me of getting drunk in Clapham Common. I think it was Clapham anyway...
I had a iced tub full of Isaacs on xmas day. No one, except me, touched them so the fridge is full of them still. I agree its a pretty good drop. Anyone had the Monteiths one? I had the choice to get that or macs and at $19 for 6 I decided against the mont's. -

If you can get it from your local New World, Magners is what I wanted, but Isaac's isn't far behind.

All this talk about cider on New Years Eve... Off to the fridge. -
I was disappointed witht he Monteiths Cider that the alcohol percentage was only 4. Something more robust would have floated my boat.
Just like Macs and Montys in general at the moment I think the Macs Cider edges it although there was nothing wrong with the Monty's effort. -
Mata Artesian, made in Kawerau (@ $12.99 for 4 from Super Liquor) is a very good pale ale type lager, they also do a Manuka Honey and a Feijoa one.
-
i tried the Monteiths Cider and wasn't overly impressed with it. But then again, i'm not much of a cider connoisseur

for those in Wellington, Thorndon New World has an excellent selection of international and boutique beers
It does but if you can be bothered making the trek a little further it is beaten hands down by regional wines and spirits (on the mt Vic side of the basin). It has he best range in Wellington and also a selection of good nz beers on tap that you can buy by the flaggon. -
oh, given I was comparing Monteiths Cider with the might of White Lightning (bought in 3l plastic bottle in the UK) I thought it was pretty good, ok to have a bottle on a hot summer evening.

If I planned on having more than a couple, not somethign I'd be keen on. -

That Regional shop in Wellington is one of the best liquor stores I've ever been to.

All of his specials were top stuff, and one of the best ranges of NZ piss I'd ever seen. -
the northern part of bavaria is the real paradise for passionate beer drinkers. if you understand german than check out tis site:
tried Export 33 or whatever it is?

Easily the 'best' low carb beer (oxymoron?) I have tried.....not that that is a great achievement given most low carb beers are sh!te
