I do think it was a PK. He got his hands on the ball because his initial entry was from the side. He then moved to the back making it look like the entry was OK.
YC harsh, but then the crusaders were hard on attack in the 22m (EDIT or maybe near the 22m - I can't remember)

Lets give him some credit, he almost made it to three pages before bringing up his double act of NZ refs and the competitiveness of Super rugby.

Improved angle for kick by about 10m. Is it an +EV play or a -EV play? Probably about neutral I reckon. Would depend on chances of a dropped ball versus the likelihood of the improved angle making the conversion more likely.
More to the point, my view is that players who do that sort of thing are clearly full of confidence and enjoying their rugby. That seems to be a feature of well coached teams. I am OK with letting players express themselves like this.
