TV Serieseseses

I've watched some shows not on my normal watchlist, but cos I stumbled on them and let them play a bit:
Daisy Jones and the Six: An Almost Famous like show on Amazon about a band that gets big and falls apart (not a spoiler). Oddly enough, as I can't stand their music, the band is clearly based on Fleetwood Mac. Was pretty good with an awful awful awful ending.
Deutschland 83: A show about an East German spy in 1983. Lots of 80s music and an In The Lives of Others feel to it although not as good as that movie. I really enjoyed it and went straight into watching Deutschland 86 (there's also 89) which isn't as good.
The After Party: Apple TV comedy starring Tiffany Haddish, a black dude who is really familiar but I don't know his name, Dave Franco and John Ralpheo from Parks and Rec. It's an almost Rashamon style show where each episode is the events of a night told by different people.

I didn't get a Fleetwood Mac vibe. From what I saw it was more Jefferson Airplane, but I quite enjoyed it.

I didn't get a Fleetwood Mac vibe. From what I saw it was more Jefferson Airplane, but I quite enjoyed it.

(2022)- Quite enjoyed it
- VERY much enjoyed the 1960's-style bras/tight-jerseys on the female lead... the physics-defying horizontal Fujis of joy. Lubbly jubbly.
- Somebody mentioned they got 1960's London right... and yeah, it was quite well done
- A lot of the current trend of "period pieces" are doing that sort of thing very well - Endeavour, etc
- But... at times, it felt like they were just shoe-horning things in there. Throw in a reminder that homosexuality was illegal, for example. I didn't mind that one too much, actually, but can't think of the more jarring ones.
With that in mind - something else I thought of recently, after watching one of the many "1980s" period pieces around the place - think Wonder Woman, Stranger Things, The Americans... and whatever it was I watched last week that made me think of it...
... is this due to the current studio execs being of the generation where they're especially nostalgic for the 80s
... and if so... does that mean the 1990s are coming up? And is that going to be good or bad? -

Not to mention if Marty and Doc went from 2023 to 1993 ( todays equivalent of 1985 to 1955 ) what music would he shock the 90s with at the school dance ?

Finished S2 of Sweet Tooth, still good, probably not as good as S1 as more was set in a single location (the Essex Zoo aka Auckland Zoo)
Was funny seeing a scene at Eden Park with it overgrown and in disrepair!

Thought it great - well paced, acting was great and very little padding.
Roll on Series 3.

Did you think it was better than season 1? I wasn't a big fan despite watching the entire season (probably due to Mathew Rhys and Tatiana Maslany).

I think so, though I haven't watched them back-back.
The characters are a wee bit cliche but the writing and acting is v. good and the back-stories are filled-in and that's really well done. Plot unfolding and overall feel was a bit like LA Confidential - no bad thing.
Juliet Rylance & Justin Kirk were great.

I'm 3 into it, and is enough for me to keep going, I think I know whats going on (ep 3 showed I am probably right) but guess I'll have to keep watching to find out

@voodoo yeah I only recently noticed there was another season of The Great, that it is, so got that to watch with Mrs TR after we just finished The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, which is decent enough, but not one I'd bother with if Mrs TR wasn't watching too.

I absolutely loved the first 4 seasons of TMMM - devoured it. Mrs Voodoo discovered S5 recently and started watching, and I came in halfway through - can't believe what they have done with it, absolute butchers job. S4 Finale was great, and it's like they totally ignored it so they could eke out a few more episodes. Then they've added the different time era's just to cover the fact that they ran of decent plot lines?
They should have ended it at S4

Mate, give it a good go, I thought it was really excellent - sorry to ruin expectations for S5 in a few months...

@taniwharugby I read these books, which were excellent. So far it's been a faithful adaption, very enjoyable. I'd watch Rebecca Ferguson read the phone book though.
