Mavs suck. Who could have thought that adding Kyrie would make them even worse at defense?
Right, I just watched the 2nd half of the Mavs v Hawks. And you know what? I have fallen right off the Luka wagon.
Like all the way off, I'm waving it goodbye into the sunset, I might never again get on it.
Today Kyrie was in one of those moods. In the 4th quarter alone, he had 14 points with only 1 missed shot, including the last 6 Dallas points including a sweet move for the tying shot with 35 seconds to go. Brought them all the way back.
Atlanta come down and score on a lucky tip to go up 2 (yeah Dallas still can't rebound)
So 20 seconds to tie or go ahead, you go to the hot hand right? Or at least involve him in the play somehow, right?
Nah
Luka demands the ball at the inbounds, dribbles the clock to 3 seconds, makes a shit drive right and throws a bail out cross court pass to Wood on the wing who is well covered.
It was so fucking selfish, I couldn't believe it. Weak coaching from Kidd too.
And of course Luka whined all game and had multiple defensive lapses (did anyone hear Lowe tell the story of a scout telling him that Luka is the worst transition defender in the HISTORY of the league??!!)
Yeah, Kyrie is an odd guy and not a great defender. But this is Luka's team. How about he turns up to the season opener not needing to "play himself into shape". How about he sets the tone on D with some fucking effort? How about he gets back on D after a miss instead of whining at the refs every single fucking time? How about he show some class and reward a teammate when he's hot and give his team the best chance of winning a game?
Sorry Luka, I'm out on you (I'm sure you'll be devastated to hear that).
As an aside, how come the Mavs never run a Luka-Kyrie pick and roll at the top? Surely that would create some awesome matchup issues, they can both pop or roll to the rim, you can't cheat under. I haven't watched many of their games this year so maybe they do run that a bit, but they sure didn't today - it's all penetrate and kick, over and over
Fucking Mavs. I somewhat understand why they did what they did tonight, but this team should never have gone down this road. To bitch out like that is some shit.

Totally agree. I’m a grown up, I accept teams tank. But it feels so much worse at this end of the season.
To take Luka out after a quarter, and say to the league “thanks for that shot at the play-in, we respectfully decline to try for it” just feels terrible.
The league needs to change something up

Under investigation now apparently because they are too dumb to not just tank quietly, but come out and announce it. Even though it will fuck us up worse if the league does something, it would funny if they just removed the protection from the pick (I doubt that will happen though).

Warriors in 6….
Bucks look the toughest team because of their ability to turn it up defensively when they want to. Jrue, Giannis and Lopez are basically 1st team all-defensive players. They have size and shooting too.

@voodoo If Karl Anthony Towns's calf injury is not bad enough to stop him from playing today, the Lakers might be lucky to even get past my Timberwolves.
You can get $4.30 on that at the TAB mate, good luck to you!
-
@Bovidae And it almost was too but somehow my guys managed to blow a ten point lead in the last to lose it by six in overtime, still the $1.90 for the eight point start went someway toward softening the blow. The Timberwolves have another shot at the eighth spot in the Western Conference taking on the winner of New Orleans v Oklahoma City for that last qualifying position.

ESPN's NBA experts, all 17 of them, picked the Heat to beat the Hawks in the play-in game today. And guess who won?
Good news if you are a T-Wolves fan then!
Heat blew it at home. They were always under the pump at down by 20PTS during game.
-
@TeWaio said in NBA Season - now 22/23:
@Higgins LAL made tremendously hard work of that by the look's of things, people were predicting a cakewalk with Gobert out. Ant shot horribly and they still nearly won it. Lakers just can't put teams away.
The T’Wolves offence in the final 5 minutes plus the OT period was just appalling. KAT was either injured or just choked. Antman was shooting jumpers. They should not have lost their lead let alone the game.
I’m surprised all the ‘experts’ went all in on the Heat. It seemed a lazy “they’ve got playoff experience” pick and failed to realise that the Hawks length and rebounding was always going to trouble them. Hawks aren’t a great side by any stretch but giving them countless second chance opportunities will bite.
Tomorrow I have Bulls in an upset (of sorts) and Pelicans just getting the W against OKC, even though I’ll be cheering for SGA and Giddey.
-
I messaged a mate who loves a punt this morning saying Atlanta at $2.90 seems nuts! He responded with some nonsense about Butler being too good and length and some other shit, so I pussied out and didn’t bet.
Damn.
I also like the Bulls tmrw, and it appears a genuine bookies upset @ACT-Crusader , they’re paying $2.80.
I don’t even mind a double with OKC @ $8.58

@KiwiMurph said in NBA Season - now 22/23:
What a comeback by the Bulls. Down 19 points and came back to win.
These play in games are fun.
Loved the Bulls defensive pressure in that 4th when they went with that small lineup of Vuch, DeRozan, LaVine, Caruso, Beverley.
LaVine was cooking too.
-
Woohoo, OKC get the win. Very happy about that with SGA and Giddey both coming up big.
A what could’ve been season for the Pelicans. With Zion in the lineup they were a top 2-3 side in the West. Without they are a middle of the pack.
T’Wolves v OKC matchup is intriguing. KAT has a slight injury and their defensive stopper McDaniels is unlikely. SGA or Giddey are a tough cover for Mike Conley.

upset day!
