Anyway club rugby in top grades etc kick off here in the Naki tomorrow, so will be down at the Hub watching Southern take on Coastal.
Had to clip myself under the ear last week, wandered down and watch a bit of training and thought that a prop was almost overruling the coach, and I thought he seems to know what he's talking about. Got home and it clicked it's Micheal Bent, played for Ireland as late as last year. Anyway, thought I Southern pack looked a little small, and the players who I noticed at seemingly 9 had passes that could do with some work, though I don't know if they were actual 9s etc, so will be good to have a peek tomorrow! -
@Stargazer Based on the team lists for the Waikato clubs released so far, Latrell Smiler-Ah-Kiong is still at TA Sports and is playing 1st 5 now that Taha Kemara is with the Crusaders.
Malachi Wrampling has jumped ship to Hamilton OB, and replaced by Tai Cribb. Hopefully WR publishes the full team lists, like previous years.

A bit wet here in Hamilton, lucky my club Te Rapa Vs Suburbs is the broadcasted game on the Waikato Facebook page. A lot of head high penalties because of the new ruling.
A few guys have left to play for Melville up a grade, interesting to see if they do any good at that level. Our new players doing alright.

Well haven't checked other scores yet, but here in the Naki I was down at Southern's game against Coastal, Southern won 26-12, was a bloody good game.
Was going to watch Colts before that game but as I wandered into park, the women's team from both clubs were playing and I never got past that, it was a tasty game with Southern winning that too 34-27. So was good, pretty sure it was a clen sweep today against Coastal.with Colts and Div 1 teams also winning. -
Goodyear Tyres Auckland Cub Rugby competition for 2023 is up and running
Todays R1 results saw current Gallagher Shield Champions Manukau Rovers prove far too good for near neighbours Otahuhu played at the Rovers home ground Williams Park
The home side who lead 35-3 at halftime kept the pressure on in the 2nd half to keep the visitors at bay
Winger Josh Gray catching the eyeWaitakere travelled to Shadbolt Park to take on Suburbs , unfortunately for the visitors who put in a solid first half effort to be 3-26 down the floodgates would open for the 2nd half.
Ponsonby got their 2023 campaign away to a perfect start when they travelled to Papatoetoe and picked up the 5 points , however they had to work hard leading 15-8 at the break before pulling away in the 2nd half
Only one point separated the hosts Marist and the visitors Waitemata at the break in a keenly contested fixture played at the Mt Wellington War Memorial
However it would be the visitors who would get the job done and pick up the 5 points.Pakuranga proved a hard nut to crack for the visitors Grammar Tech who travelled to Bell Park in what turned out to be tight tussle especially in the first half.
With only 4 points separating the 2 teams at the break it would be Grammar Tech with a strong 2nd half defensive performance, adding another try and a 3 pointer to complete the victory.Today I travelled to Colin Maiden Park to watch the home side University take on the visitors College Rifles in what turned out to be a tighter than expected contest .
College Rifles with a new coaching staff and 12 debutants showed plenty of courage against a University team that is always tough to beat at home
Just the one try separated the 2 sides at the break with much of the game played between to 22 metre marks on the one occasion University did get in behind the Rifles defence the ball was spread to the left flank with try being nailed in the corner
University did have one last opportunity to extend their lead but the pass was spilled with the line openThe 2nd half saw 2 crucial penalties to replacement University first five Christian Stenhouse which pushed the score out to 11-0 before Rifles finally posted a try from close range under a sea of bodies with around 10 minutes to go
However apart from a couple of superb King Maxwell breaks which did’nt quite find the right set of hands at the right time and space it would be the home side that would bar up defensively and take a deserved victory.I would imagine there would be some mixed feelings in both camps but there will be plenty of improvement in both teams moving forward
For University Uini Fetalaiga,Will Bason and skipper Te Ariki Te Puni along with fellow front rower Louis Morrell were full of work defensivelyDexter Faamoana was excellent at scrum time and around the paddock for Rifles as was open side side Christian Kelleher
Rifles with 12 debutants new to premier Rugby none looked better than Blues U20 outside back King Maxwell who at 18 years of age has all the skills to progress on to bigger things

Holy shit, Mahurangi got a win!
-
Good to see, in the Naki, Southern played Spotswood last night, picked up a win so we won first 2 games of the season Yehaa.!
Just another thing to add I keep an eye on the 2nd/3rd div comp, with the country clubs and just realsied that Okiawa is fielding a woman's team this season, that may not seem much to many on here but Okiawa is a little place with 19 houses, I guessing they picked up players from Kaponga and Normanby ares (all withing 6-10kms. With Normanby fielding a mens team again this year, I have to say I find it all good news!
-
I am surprised that Varsity have been well beaten in both games so far as I thought they would be more competitive with a number of Chiefs U20 players in their team.
Hamilton Marist in a close win over United Matamata Sports for their Centenary Celebrations.
