I can understand how after a high tackle the player may have been angry and lashed out in his use of language, but that doesn't excuse it. It may seem a harsh punishment but from the reporting it's clear they've got a problem down there and need to send a signal to stamp it out.

Seriously has NZ regressed since I left? In 20 years in the front row in NZ, Scotland, England and France and only heard one racial slur in that time, the Ref pulled a red immediately. It was at highschool and their tighthead said "Put it in you black bastard" when he thought the scrum half was dicking around. Not particularly imaginative stuff but what do you expect from a 17 year old.
 
I would be shocked if this was common.
 
A funny story though was playing in England we had a big centre whose parents immigrated from somewhere in the Caribbean, who was fairly devastating ball in hand. After one run their captain was heard to yell "Will someone just put that fucking Fijian down". Our centre responded with "Fuck you mate I'm from Burton on Trent!"

If in a stressful situation and his go to use of language is racist, he just might be a racist.

I remember the poms complaining Fitzpatrick called one of their props something along the lines of a black bastard when they were getting ready for a scrum. Fitzpatrick denied it saying why would he when he had Olo Brown packing down beside him.

I wouldn't put it past Fitzy to say that. Norm Hewitt has been quoted as saying Fitzy used to give him an earful when he first played against him.

This Press Release is Waihora RFCâ€™s response to the outcome of the racial abuse allegation against Bronson Munro by the Southbridge Rugby Club/Canterbury Rugby Football Union.

Last night the CRFU Metro Judicial Committee found Bronson guilty, on the balance of probabilities, of racial abuse. Bronson has denied this allegation throughout and continues to deny it. Both the Waihora RFC and Bronson are disappointed in the decision of the Judicial Committee.
We would like to express thanks to the match officials that were called to give evidence. As the only independent witnesses, they did not hear any racial abuse.
Bronson has been a member of the CRFU Maori team for 3 years running, which we are very proud of. We are also very proud of the large number of representative players we have across all grades, including three members of our Senior Div1 team who are or have been CRFU Maori representative players.
The committee of Waihora RFC has worked very hard over the last decade in growing our club and keeping kids in sport. It is very disappointing from a club perspective to see years of hard work being decimated by this decision of the Judicial Committee.
Waihora RFC, like all rugby clubs in the Ellesmere sub union, have a zero tolerance for any form of racial abuse. All players are instructed and encouraged to play their rugby in the spirit of good sportsmanship.
Waihora RFC is currently waiting for the written verdict to be handed down by CRFU at which time an appeal will be made to the Appeal Committee.

Didn't want to start a new topic about something as negative as this, but now a player has been banned for life for punching a referee! Why can't people just enjoy playing the game anymore without such behaviour?

 A Manawatu club rugby player has been banned for life from his club after he allegedly punched a referee from behind during a match on Saturday. 
 The incident occurred during a match between the Freyberg Bs and Linton Army Bs at Linton Army Camp. 
 The referee, Paul Deventer, was taken to hospital for stitches. He also had a broken nose and possible concussion. 
 According to a witness, who asked not to be named, the player hit the referee in the head from behind shortly after he blew the fulltime whistle. Freyberg had lost the match 28-23. 
 The Freyberg Rugby Club board met on Sunday morning and quickly decided to ban the player for life from the club. 
 "As a club, we have banned the player for life and it is now in the hands of the court and the union to deal with," Freyberg chairman Andrew Wood said. 
 "It is not part of our culture, or who we want to be. Unfortunately the actions of one has tarnished us. 
 "There is no room for that as far as we are concerned so he is gone." 
 Linton senior A coach Ben James said he did not see the incident as he was taking his team through warm-ups, but he went over to the referee after it happened. 
 "I went up to him after to see if he was alright and he was pretty shaken," he said. "He was bleeding from the nose and had a cut on his nose." 
 James said some of the spectators, including some children, were shaken up by the incident. 
 Police were called to the incident. 
 Manawatu Rugby Union chief executive John Knowles said they were waiting on a report from the referee's association on the incident. 
 He said a judicial hearing is likely to be held around Thursday and expected a tough line would be taken. 
 The incident put a dampener on what was meant to be a big weekend for the Freyberg. 
 The club's senior A team had been was on the verge of being kicked out of the Manawatu competition last year after losing all 16 matches and conceding 1026 points along the way. 
 But with a new board and coaching staff in place, they have reversed their fortunes. 
 The club's senior As, who played the Linton Army As after the alleged assault occurred, won 29-27 to record their fourth win of the season and lock up seventh place for the year.

The Auckland ABs minus John Kirwan and even including Michael Jones sounded like a pack of real fluffybunnies. Mike Brewer too.

Siam

At otago uni in the early 90s Brewer worked at or part owned the Bowler pub. Was drinking there one time and ordered a carton and bruiser personally delivered it to our table.
