My favourite player, what a legend.

Also 19 seasons with the same NBA team, after a 4 year collegiate career at Wake Forest.

It is a rarity for a player to only play for one franchise in their entire career in today's professional environment. Kobe played 20 seasons for the Lakers but never went to college. Nowitzki is 18 seasons and counting for the Mavs.
-

It's a rarity because most guys a looking for that next big pay day or for success. Timmy had success so was willing to take a salary cut to keep the team and also build success.

I've been a huge fan of Timmy. Was glad I got to see him play live earlier this year. The Spurs were my team growing up. I had a George Gervin poster on my wall and then the Admiral became my favourite player when things started to turn around from the dark days of the late 80s. Timmy came and we could take that extra step of being a championship team.
-

Yep. San Antonio is also a one pro team city (much like OKC eh KD!) so he could have moved to a bigger market. But Duncan choose to stay and build success, and is the face of the franchise. They are considered the model pro sports franchise.

BTW, the Pop-Duncan combo has won more games (1001) than any other coach-player in NBA history.

I've alway liked the Spurs too. The Admiral and Sean Elliott were my favs in the 1990s.

The Iceman. Showing your age there! :)

Given this news, I assume Gasol has been signed as a direct replacement for Duncan.
-

Did i read he didn't even have a press conference, let alone a farewell tour season?

He checked his ego at the door. A rarity in the NBA and one reason why I have not interest.
-

Popovich was scheduled to hold a press conference today but I can't find it on the ESPN site.

In looking I did see this tribute to Tim Duncan, including some words from Sean Marks. Humility is the word you're looking for, Sean. :mocking:

Gasol, Aldridge, Leonard, Parker, Gonobli is a good backbone for your franchise.

Add in other role players and they will be strong again.

They got rid of Diaw and West also. -

Yeah I just think they lack quality shooting options beyond Leonard. Parker/Manu are past their prime, Danny Green is hot and cold, Patty Mills has moments but not consistent enough.

But Leonard and Aldridge are so good I can see them getting as far as the conference finals if it all lines up for them.
-
Mills had a decent shooting night last night.

His role seemed a little different this season. He played more minutes per game but he seemed to get less shots from others and he was having to create his own shot more. -

OKC could be decimated by first tip off. Westbrook is apparently to be traded this off season.

Poor old Oladipo. Finds himself on a top 5 team only to end up back where he started.

The only noise in the last 12-18 hours has been speculation about him going to Boston in a trade. But no one from those organisations are actually talking right now.

So what happens? If he goes before the season starts then Thunder could be demanding some big things in return. Wait until the trade deadline and Thunder loses a bit of its bargaining power. Wait until next summer and they are vulnerable big time. Just a week ago David Aldridge tweeted that there was no chance Westbrook will do a renegotiation/extension of his contract with the Thunder.

Westbrook will be wondering if he plays the season out and wait until next summer where the big time money awaits him (from Lakers). I heard the Lakers are being a bit cheeky saying now that they will get him next summer without having to give up anything. Thunder front office are under the pump right now....
-

I am not putting much stock in any of the Westbrook rumours. These same people predicted KD wouldn't leave. They don't know what is happening.

It is just an excuse to tweet and fill articles.
-

As I mentioned earlier in this thread OKC will have little option but to trade Westbrook if he has no intention of re-signing before he becomes a free agent.

It's no secret Westbrook wants to go back home to LA and OKC will want to get something in return (high draft picks or good players). Otherwise, he walks out the door and they get nothing.

This free agent period has been crazy. I read that Ray Allen has been making noises about coming back. He's one of the best pure shooters in NBA history but is nearly 41.
-

Is that a fact or is it just conjecture based on the fact that he is from Long Beach and went to UCLA? It seems like one of those things that has been repeated so many times that it has become an established fact but is there any source to that rumor?
-

OKC are undoubtedly weakened by the loss of KD but they have more pieces. Having said that I think they need to put the acid on him and if Westbrook doesn't sign an extension they have to trade him in order to avoid watching him walk for nothing at the end of the season

Agreed and I bet that's what they do. They couldn't afford to lose their best player for no compensation two summers in a row.
-

My bet is on him staying in OKC for at east the next 3 years!
