Ish Sodhi and Matt Henry both average more with the bat than Michael Bracewell, so he really needs to take a bag of wickets and bowl tightly to justify his selection.

He needs to be dropped immediately

I agree. There are 4 or 5 better options

    Sri Lanka.

Look to be well coached, well lead, disciplined bowling plans, scouting opposition batters.

This is what it must be like to have a head coach who isn't just phoning it in?

Further to that - Why are the retirements of Watling & Taylor used as an excuse for Stead's poor results when their replacements (Blundell, Mitchell) have been superior players in the last 3 years and have outstanding 45+ career averages.

Fun fact, NZ also have 3 players who average above 50 in their test lineup - no other country in the world does.

Can't wait until Stead finally leaves so we can bring in a coach who can enable us to play to our full potential.

What is it with us selecting a mediocre batsman to bowl ineffectual spin?

    He's right arm Santner.

It's not Bracewell, Tickner and Mitch Jr. is it? 🙂

Tickner has taken to test cricket like a duck to water like I’ve always said he would.

    Absolutely outstanding performance.

Averaging over 50 as a bowler isn’t good though

The last on your list is correct ...

... but then I wondered if you're talking bowling average...?

@booboo The smiley face is a hint. 🙂

Mitch Jr. is actually the only one who does with bowling.

After this evening Tickner is a respectable low thirties. 🙂

So, at stumps, I've got us marginally ahead with SL effectively 65/3 (and not really accounting their last four wickets being bits of bunnies).

    Matthews the big wicket.

Get him early tomorrow and I think we win.

Mate, 150 odd for 5, were all but fucked.
Get in tonight after a busy day out and we made 370 odd.

We’ve got an incredible knack of getting ourselves out of some really shit situations at the moment.

Out batting order seems very brittle at the moment, prone to a collapse which we haven’t seen much of in the last couple of years.

Nicholls the huge concern, hasn’t scored runs for what seems a long time. Time to give Young or Phillips some time in the saddle and see what they can do.

Yup. Can't judge Young or Phillips on a game or two, Nicholls has been given far more rope than that

Young and Phillips are just clearly worse players. I'm all for someone arguing that Nicholls is out of form and maybe someone else could score more runs than him in Wellington. I don't accept that there is a better batsman than him in New Zealand waiting in the wings.

Our bottom 5 batsmen scored a combined 151 runs. Strong end to the innings.

With a bit of luck we may have had 5.

Very hard to see the SL tail wagging like it did again. That bottom four barely average double figures between them.

….and as if to say “fuck you MN5” Tickner gets another !!!!
