Sportsman of the Year is Nico Porteous (snow sport- freeskiing).
As predicted a while back, Olympic golds and World Cups usually triumph at the Halbergs.

This is weird, I have no memory of there a. being a winter Olympics last year, and b. NZ winning two Golds. But at the least I must have read about it here.
Damn, it's a bit early for early onset dementia.
Winter Olympics are cool, but they're not the X-Games

How do Gen Y and beyond feel about being forced to compete in the X Games?

Y? X? I get them confused. Which is the one that can’t pull its pants up?

The supreme Halberg Award goes to Zoi Sadowski-Synnott.
The correct choice, given she won an Olympic gold and silver.

Halberg's time again, and Lydia Ko won the Supreme Award (interestingly all the nominees were female). I agree with this, as GOAT as Carrington is, canoe is pretty niche compared to golf.

I think Kerr's achievement is the best - the field is so large to win gold is extraordinary. Like sprinting, it's something tried everywhere by basically all kids - so to get up for a track and field gold in a category like that is amazing.
Also, kind of cool it's the middle word of the Olympic motto (which should probably actually be something around graft, cash, corruption; but that's another story)

Just was looking up some of those athletes and see NZ really has an incredible watersports tradition - 3 of top 4 events in terms of NZs Olympics medal performances are rowing, sailing & canoeing.
6th in alltime rowing & canoeing golds
10th in sailing. If you looked at this on a per capita basis it would be even more impressive.

Would've had BF7s meself (TOTY) But what's the Halbergs without a whinge?
And Kerr overall.

@nonpartizan we like to win our medals sitting down. Boats, bikes and horsies have served us well
