Rennie Sacked, Eddie In!
-
@Dan54 Rennie has done a deal to go to Japan. He would not go a miss with a role at Super level or in some capacity at least. This also begs the question of whether Scott gets to have some role to play with the Abs this world cup. Not expecting this but not surprised by Jones returning.
-
@SBW1 Makes it a little interesting doesn't it for Razor doesn't it? He won't or probably not interested in assistant roles with ABs, but if he misses the nest time job comes up next year, perhaps we now seen the Wallaby job gone, (and no overseas coach should touch them now) and if Poms stick with Bothwick?

@Duluth you'd like to think that whoever is applying for the AB job (be it Foz, Razor, JJ, assuming Rennie wont) will be talking with him.
Unfortunately will Rennie have to rebuild his reputation again? Geez not many get an international gig after Aussie have dumped you.

dunno, I reckon he has done enough in NZ rugby to serve him well, and from an outside perspective, you can see he has made improvements although Aus Rugby and he werent without thier issues.
NZR seem to love that International experience....

@NTA said in Aussie Rugby:
This is peak RA, I might add.
Peak RA would have been Alan Jones, not Eddie Jones. (I did double check).
I stand corrected.

All Blacks should hire Rennie as defence coach
Now if they could work Razor, Rennie & Schmidt into a workable trio ala - Henry, Smith and Hansen? Probably too ambitious but if it could work?

genuinely laughing at using Eddie's "world cup win percentage" as this amazing thing.
Generally, the big teams lose once a world up. If you win your pool games and lose your quarter, boom! 80% win percentage achieved!
-
So RA replace a bloke that lost against Ireland and France (ranked one and two in the world) by three and one points respectively, beat Argentina, Scotland and South Africa at home with a bloke who lost to Ireland by 17, France by 12 and lost to Argentina, Scotland and South Africa..? Have I got that right?

Yep taniwhai, but Deans seemed to of never really got another gig, and his rep was probably even higher than Rennies?

He's doing very nicely for himself in Japan without the stresses of test rugby.

Winning percentage did not help and I am sure losing to Italy probably just pushed the knife further in from the "he's not Strayan" club.
Strange times, Gatland, now Jones.. I wonder if Rudolph Straeuli and John Mitchel preparing for his multiverse

As I said on GAGR: international coaching is a bit like Corporate Executive; once you're in you always have a gig - no matter your reputation or history.

Is that what Eddie told them in his interview?
“It is a major coup for Australian Rugby to have the best coach in the world return home to coach the iconic Wallabies and to oversee the Wallaroos program,” McLennan said.
McLennan is on drugs. Incredibly stupid less than a year out from RWC and only makes sense if their focus is RWC 2027 in Australia. I like Eddie Jones alot but he's not the team/culture builder that Rennie was. He's what Aussie's call a shit-stirrer and IMO Rugby Aus will regret this in a couple of seasons time.
This will be Eddie’s last big international coaching job and he’s returned home. This is a legacy moment for him and he’s a pretty proud man, so I think there will be some changes. From all reports he’s learned a heap about man management from his stints in SA, Japan and England. He’s still a little old school but I think the approach will be different.
Whether that translates to results, well who knows.
I think it’s a very good appointment and a right fit for what really is an up and down side that when they are good they are really good and when they play poor they are a 7th or 8th ranked side.

from a management perspective this is an interesting case
it appears, from teh outside, the Rennie has spent 3 years building culture and depth, to varying levels of success depending on how you look at it. And it's cost him his job.
Did RA sign off on the plan and vision?
Is this just a decision by RA to get who they see as the best coach available?Didn't the wallabies have a camp like a week ago? Anything worked on is already redundant.
