Anyone still want to blame the pitch for South Africa being shit at batting?

    you still beating that drum?

I don’t think anyone on here rates the Proteas batting. Their top order is brittle and their lower order are a shout back to the 80s and early 90s lower orders.

But that Gabba wicket was a shocker. Why were the Aussie batters speaking out about it too?

    Pity?
Maybe they wanted to blame the pitch instead of their technique as well?
Maybe they wanted to play mind games with the visiting team?

Ultimately they were saying it was tough to bat on. Elgar asked the umpires whether it was dangerous.

    Test batsmen have gone soft.

The pitch might not have been balanced perfectly but sometimes that needs to happen.

Watching the Aussies, I always remember how much I like Steve Smith as a batsman.
I even like when things were not going well, he went and worked pretty hard on correcting things, didn't apparently get a coach etc, just worked out where he was going wrong. Have respect for top sportsmen who do this, I think good batsmanand bowlers are coached well young and then really don't need as intensive coaching as they know what is right or wrong probably more than someone who hasn't perhaps been through things at such a high level?

Commentary earlier was saying the Proteas don't have an analyst as part of their back room. They were shocked. I'm shocked.

Well I'm pleased! They sure as shit don't have a nail remover, as most of the batsmen seem to have feet nailed to the ground!!

    Smith chucks it away.

Warner gets a double, but he's broken

I know my cricket pal. No two ways about it. He made it a double just to prove me more right.

I hope cowboy1982 has a meltdown about it too.

EDIT: Just reading the score and got confused as to why he wasn’t in…..why did he retire ?

Jeez Alan Border wouldn’t stand for that.

didn’t he tell the late Dean Jones to harden up when he was battling the heat and exhaustion in India on his way to a double ton to send a Queenslander out to bat ?

    Fucken Queenslanders huh @NTA

    EDIT, here it is

    Peter FitzSimons  /  Sep 25, 2020  /  Sport

The day Jones defied illness, India ... and a bristling Border

The day Jones defied illness, India ... and a bristling Border

His epic 210 in the hellish heat of Madras, when he battled crippling dysentery and an unsympathetic captain, goes down as Dean Jones' crowning glory.

If Green is out, who would Aussie replace him with? A batsman (Harris) and have 6 specialist batsman with Head at 6? Or Neser and move Carey up to 6?

With Starc probably out the bowling attack might be very different

Well I’d say Warners spot is secure for the next five years if he wants it so that problem got solved.

That's fantastic. Retires hurt because he's a dimwit. Gets a double century making him undroppable for another couple of years of poor results. Australian cricket's Foster in South Africa moment.

Any excuse to have a go at Davey.

    It’s the kiwi way.

In any case possibly a bit of a dick….definitely a modern great. I love watching him bat.

So now Green and Starc injured. Jeez we're going to struggle to get the Saffers out unless that Lyon guy steps up...

When I did the Australians who have played over a hundred tests quiz on fb he was the last one I remembered. Sure we all know the Borders, Tubbys, Waugh x 2, McGrath, Warney etc but he went right under the radar. Pretty handy record. One of 14 Aussies to play that many, NZ has four although I’d say KW and Timmy will get there early 2024…..

Two things can be true. His record speaks for itself. He's also a colossal piston wristed gibbon.
