Baker Mayfield released by the Panthers.

I wonder if the Rams might pick him up as a rental for the rest of the year just to see if there's anything there for McVay to work with as Stafford might not have much left in the tank next year.

    Or maybe the 9ers?

Makes sense. He's a waiver so they get the remainder of his contract which is pretty team friendly thanks to the browns eating a chunk to get him off the books.

Since it's a waiver the Rams have a pretty good chance to get him if they claim him, only Texans, bears and broncos have a higher priority. Bears and Broncos definitely won't be interested and I doubt the Texans will be. Real question is whether they have concerns about his personality.

@Cyclops I think he's solid. No star, but he really helped the Browns go from dumpster fire to mediocre... Which was a massive shift.

But yeah, he really hasn't kicked on

I think I’ve said it before, but Peyton & Eli is one of the best sports shows on TV. Just love how they dissect it and the back and forth with each other and their guest.

Not solid enough for a bad panthers team to keep. I guess it depends on what you mean by solid. I'd say upper tier backup, is very dependent on having all the pieces he needs around him. Somewhere like the 49ers would be a perfect landing spot for him.

The way I see it there are really three tiers of QBs (maybe four); the studs who can throw guys open, pick apart on offence, the starters who can consistently find easy completions and take what the defence gives but can't carry a team (Kirk Cousins and Andy Dalton come to mind here), and backup QBs who can execute well enough that they look good in favourable situations, can maybe find a game or two when they're in good form/have a hot streak but get broken down and figured out by defences if they have to start for an extended period. The fourth tier is below even that, but those guys don't last long in the NFL. A tier 2 RB who is an elite runner gets promoted to tier 1 but has longevity issues. Tier 2 QBs at the right price look tier 1 but ruin a team at the wrong price.

The issue with the 49ers and Baker is, in addition to being low on the waiver wire, the 49ers are huge on locker room culture and bringing in high character types and I'm not sure Baker fits that mould.

think i saw the Rams picked him up.

T Brady with another 4th quarter comeback yesterday and suddenly, The Bucs are looking SB bound.

He looked terrible for much of what I saw. But he's not the GOAT for nothing

    He was

That whole comeback relied on Kamara running out just shy of the down marker with 6 minutes to go. Then a stuffed run and terrible pass play and you open the door

The BUCS were terrible for most of that game. Brady gonna Brady though

Sources: Garoppolo avoids Lisfranc, could return

Sources: Garoppolo avoids Lisfranc, could return

Niners QB Jimmy Garoppolo doesn't need surgery on his broken foot and could return in seven to eight weeks, opening the door to a possible playoff return, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

    @canefan

7 to 8 weeks has him back in the NFC championship game I believe. If Purdy or someone else has got you that far do you pull them for Jimmy? Depends on how they're playing of course but odds on if they make it that far he doesn't get back on the field.

Mayfield was only claimed by the Rams, no one else put in a claim so 49ers clearly happy with their lot.

If they get that far without Jimmy I agree it means his replacement is probably playing well enough to keep his spot

Baker opens his tenure as a Ram with a W. My god the raiders blew it though. Baker lead two late TD drives to bring the Rams back from 16-3 down, the first featured two offsides penalties that resulted in first downs, one on a punt and the other on 3rd and 4. Then on the next drive a pick is called back for yet another penalty (although that was a DPI so maybe the pick doesn't happen without the penalty) and then they sack Baker only to give up a unsportsmanlike conduct to turn a big loss into a 15 yard gain.

Edit: Just read that this is the 4th time this year the raiders have let a 13 point lead slip. They're the opposite of the Vikings.

A breakout performance by 49ers rookie QB Brock Purdy. Time will tell if he can keep it going but gee he was impressive - even better than last week.

if you had asked preseason who would be the two strongest divisions, most would have said the two Wests.

if you had said that after 13 games both of the East conferences would have all four teams with winning records you would have been laughed out of the building.

I'm really proud of the Broncos for scoring 28 points. Pity it was on the one week the defence got opened up.

The way the offence is structured and with Shanahan calling the plays it is tailor made for a QB who is either not elite or young. Having said that he made some very nice plays that were above what I'd expect from Jimmy. It's not time to make predictions after one start. But the kid seems to have time and a good temperament
