FIFA World Cup 2022

Well I didn’t think there would be as much drama as the previous night, but that Pool H finish did provide it. Sth Korea played excellent but they were still a chance of being knocked out in the 94th minute of the Uruguay and Ghana match when Uruguay were hot on attack.
Pool G, Brazil are safe no matter what, but all of the other 3 can still make it or get knocked out depending on results.

Nip & tuck and jockeying for 2nd place
Serbia looking the most likely at this stage

Quality defending is proving optional here. The second Serbian goal was shocking from Switzerland.

Now all square
And Cameroon should be going in for oranges 1 up
-
The most blatant dive from the Serbian striker. How he doesn’t see yellow I don’t know.

Cameroon gets a famous win over Brazil B from a goal by the captain, who then gets sent off for a second bookable offence (taking his shirt off in celebration).
Happy to see Switzerland prevail over Serbia.
So no team won all 3 group stage matches. A first for a while.

Love me a Serbia vs Swiss fixture. Pure grudge match between the Serbs and the countries they raped and pillaged. Not least Kosovo with Xaqiri and Xhaka
Bit of feeling in stoppage time.
Old Mate from your mob going to be in trouble for contact with the head?

That South Korea goal was quite bizarre. There are 6 minutes of stoppage time left and yet every Korean player is back for a defensive corner - I was shouting at the TV, keep a couple up field. Anyway it is cleared to Son who has no team-mate anywhere near him and is surrounded by 7 or so Portugal players. Hwang of Wolves sprints box to box in legendary fashion, Son nutmegs a defender to find him and a fantastic finish.
Lukaku had a higher xG (expected goals) in the 2nd half v Croatia than Morocco for the whole group stage.
On the ball is in or out debate - I learnt it when I did a ref's course many years ago. The issue for me is that like close offsides, it is impossible for the naked eye to adjudicate - hence why the ball is often given out as soon as grass is seen between ball and line.
On Japan. They did virtually nothing except play a low block for 90 minutes out of 100. For the 10 minutes after half-time they pressed with the whole team and Spain were dumb enough to try to play out from the back with a keeper who doesn't have the skills. Got their 2 goals and sat back again.
From a football point of view, I'm sad the Germans are out as they are great to watch. Musiala is a fantastic talent but the whole team is a defensive liability including Neuer. I'm not all that thrilled to watch 2 hours of a team playing 10 at the back and the other team trying to break them down.
Netherlands v USA. Can see this one going to extra time unless Gakpo can keep up his goal a game thing.
Argentina v Australia. Argies should be comfortable.
France v Poland. Poland are awful, France should stroll this with some magic from their front 4.
England v Senegal. Senegal very dogged but England should have enough.
Japan v Croatia. Japan will fancy this but Croatia are canny. Extra time
Brazil v Korea Republic. Wonder if Brazil will pick both Martinelli and Vinicius as they are their best 2 wide players and the 2 for the right (Raphinha & Antony) are show ponies. 0-0 after 90 wouldn't surprise me.
Morocco v Spain. Fancy Morocco for this one.
Portugal v Switzerland. Another extra time I reckon. -

And Belgium's "golden generation" crashes to an end with only 1 goal all tournament.
That's what they get for not being French or German or Dutch.
Huh?
You’ll need to explain this one to me.

Belgium. Smack in the middle of the 3.
Also: never ask a Belgian if it's more like being French or Dutch.

Still got no idea what your post is about but whatever.

@Crucial or how few people knew the rule, that does seem a bit ridiculous though
Yeah. I didn’t know but I dont follow wendyball.
Usually if a rule looks stupid it is.
Can a ball cross “the plane of touch” in the air and come back into play (like a curving kick)?
If the whole ball must cross the line for a goal the this instance look like play on to me.No. Otherwise there would be a squillion goals from corners as they would bend them from behind the goal over the keepers head onto rushing attackers heads.
Exactly.
The rule is simply the opposite of rugby and it makes the game much clearer.
The followers of “Wendyball” get it.
