could have been so much better

Oddly, despite being the first time we won 6 in a sesson since 1997, that statement there seems to be there for us every year

Congrats Canterbury. Hats off to a very good second half from us. Made them sweat. Bring on 2023, lots to be positive about.

Shame about the first 20mins. It was a pretty even contest after that

3 teams have limped into the semis so far

while that result was what I expected, I'm pretty pleased with most of what we showed in that 2nd spell, although plenty of odd decisions out there today, not least that last penalty, but TBH, the way our attack has been, I dont think it woulda made alot of difference.

Canterbury was Canterbury, good start and then efficient from there and did the job.

While a few of Mabeys calls we iffy (both ways) thought he was largely pretty good.

Think with a bit more accuracy and smarts, we could have taken that, but it wasnt to be!

I think there are at least a few lads that played today, that probably wont pull on that Cambridge blue strip again, shame they couldnt bow out on a high, but it is what it is.

By god I'm proud of what we did today. Nobody gave Northland a chance and we ran them right to the wire. That Hohaia yellow card ( lucky not to be a red) was the difference in the end. It was looking like a cricket score after 15 mins but the lads turned things around and made them sweat.

Memorable season for us long suffering Taniwha fans... hope we can build on this next year and continue to push the more fancied sides.

@taniwharugby A lot to be proud of with your season and after the first 20 minutes you finished strong even in this

Would have been interesting since you had the advantage when Hohaia had his brain explosion if you could have got back into the game sooner.

Good season from the taniwha though.. well done

@bayimports hopefully the Taniwha front office take a leaf out of what the Bay has done and put a bit of work into youth .

Excellent contest. Great to get the win but huge congrats to Northland who bought the heat in the second half.

I thought our attack went to the dogs when Heinz came on.

Well we go there but great game from Northland if they had got up they would have throughly deserved it.
I have really loved watching Northland play during this years NPC.
I have cheered them on in most games this season as it’s great for NZ having teams who are not SR strongholds doing well.

Great Northland haka to start the game. Proud to support the team when they work for each other and play with pride.

This year the preseason work on fitness seemed to be the difference. We stayed in phases for longer (defence won us games) and played 80 minutes mostly.

If we can maintain that standard and improve our execution we will do well again next year.

As Steve says, be nice to see Northland work hard on young player squad selection and development in the off season. The young talent we have now is great and to see players like Matich ( older but ignored last year? ), and Mau’u, Rush, Tua, Murray, Reihana, Craig who have had breakout seasons, play well at this level was pleasing.

Probably the last game for Rene as well as Ross. Both centurions have been awesome for the province. Utmost respect for each.

So close Northland. Canterbury are definitely beatable.

I think what this season has highlighted are that there are certain teams that play a way that trouble others.

I don’t think there is too much between the 8 teams that made the playoffs.

Yeah it feels like any of the top 8 can knock one another off on their day, it's about timing your run to the finals and making sure your players aren't gassed when they get there.
