Did they fly him over just for that one game? Must mean Trainor is not available either. Or maybe he was brought over to cover for Trainor?

Yes, Lowe ended up at the bottom of a pile of bodies after being tackled and stayed on the ground - grabbing his leg - afterwards. Looked like hamstring injury, but haven't read/heard anything.

I forgot about Trainor. That could make more sense.

Two hours later, the All Blacks account posts an update on Twitter:

#NZU20 UPDATE | Jonah Lowe is replaced at 11 by Peter Umaga-Jensen with Orbyn Leger coming in at number 23.

What do they know now that they didn't know 2 hours ago? Weird. Still unclear who's at 20.

New line-up:

1. Ayden Johnstone 2. Leni Apisai (c) 3. Sosefo Kautai 4. Quinten Strange 5. Hamish Dalzell 6. Luke Jacobson 7. Mitchell Jacobson 8. Marino Mikaele-Tu’u 9. Sam Nock 10. Stephen Perofeta 11.
The World Rugby site has Isaia Walker-Leawere at 19 and Moala-Liava'a at 20. Which would seem to make more sense.

Maybe they were hoping Jonah Lowe would come right before the game? Either way, glad that Peter Umaga-Jensen is getting a start.

What was the point of bringing Leger along? I don't think they've even used him?

Great to see Peter Umaga Jensen selected, though Ive never seen him play 11. Usually a Fullback or Centre.

Yeah, and what was the point of including Trainor in the squad? Emerson could have made a big difference. I know I'm repeating myself, but I'm still annoyed about his non-selection.

I'm no Emerson fluffer (he's got the Lindersfarne black mark against him of course ;)) but it was weird that he didn't make this team - he was one of the top 3 in the game the team actually won against the convicts and he seems to suit wing better than Lowe (as one example of a player who made the team ahead of him).

Trainor deserved to get in the team after his U19, Ranfurly Shield, and Blues Dev performances. They didn't know Trainor was going to get injured after one game.

I think he made the bench in the first game, but I don't think he got on. With how Jacobson has been going, he probably should've got this last game.

Trainor was seriously injured before the tournament (ruptured spleen?) and was expected to be out for much longer. They took a big gamble by selecting him and it miss-fired. In his only game, he didn't play well at all. Emerson deserved to be included just as much; thanks to him, the Magpies won the ITM Cup Championship Final in which he scored the winning try. He also performed well in the warm-up matches.

He wasn't really expected to be out longer, no one really knew TBF, because it wasn't a common injury. They said he could've been out for between 6 weeks to a year, but it was much closer to 6 weeks than a year.

In his one game, I thought he was ok, not bad. He hooked up well with the wingers in bad conditions and he had to play behind a well beaten pack.. He got hurt after taking a big hit to set up Tuitama for a try.

Emerson probably did deserve to make the team, but not for Trainor. I doubt he makes a big difference in this tournament though, as he can't scrum, win lineouts or muscle up in the tight. The wingers in this team weren't a problem in this tournament.

Looks like the NZU20 team has had a visit from the injury bug. After Lowe and Stevenson being out injured, now Mikaele-Tu'u already off and Caleb Makene not looking well either. The commentator said there are only 2 backs on the bench.

The injuries not stopping NZ from scoring tries. They're dominating Australia with 3 converted tries to 1: 21-7.

By the way, I saw on the WR website that Italy beat Japan 41-17. That means that Japan will drop out of the tournament next year.
