If you feel like torturing yourself by watching our development team getting spanked by the Poo's Evergreens, here's last Saturday's game on YouTube. I'm still considering whether it's worth my time.

@Higgins This is the only home game:

    Farah Palmer Cup Championship Semi-final
    Tui v Northland
Saturday 3 September 2022 at McLean Park. Kick-off is at 11.35am.

Entry is FREE through gate 4 only due to the Home and Garden show also being at McLean Park this weekend.

All other rep games are away games. I'll post the details once I know them.

    Results Saturday 3 September 2022:

The Tui have reached the Farah Palmer Cup semi-final after beating Northland 28 - 19.

The Hawke's Bay Development v Taranaki Development game ended in a 27 all draw.

Our U18 boys beat their Poverty Bay counterparts 24 to 21.

The best result of the day came from our U19s, who smashed Manawatū U19 by no less than 38 to nil.

I found out that the U18 game was streamed live after the stream had ended. Here's the link:

Apparently the halftime score was 0-0 so the second half must have been an impressive performance. Cooper Flanders scored one of the six tries (one was a penalty try) and Harry Godfrey kicked 3 conversions.

@Number-10 Maybe the wind was a factor in the game? Playing into the wind in the first half keeping them scoreless, and wind in the back the second half?

There are two home games this Saturday (10 September 2022):

The U19s play the Hurricanes Heartland U20 team in the curtain raiser to the Magpies' Shield game against Southland. Kick-off at McLean Park is at 12.00pm.

The U18s also play at home. Not sure where and at what time, but they play Wairarapa-Bush U18.

The Development team is supposed to play the Wellington Centurions in Wellington, but I haven't seen any confirmation of this, yet.

Then there is also the Te Upoko o Te Ika Tournament at the NZ Campus of Innovation & Sport in Upper Hutt.
The Hawke's Bay Māori Te Matau a Maui team will play Waitaha (Canterbury Māori) in the second game (k/o is about 2.45 or 3.00pm). The first game is between Wellington Māori Te Upoko O Te Ika and Taranaki Māori.

On Saturday, the winners of the Friday games play each other and the losers play each other, at the same venue.

One of the HB U19 tries:

The player making the break near the left touchline and try assist is Harry Godfrey. I can't see who the try scorer is, but it looks like a 14 on his back.

Here's the link to the Facebook post with all the tries (these links are not always so-called permalinks, so may stop working at some point):

Earlier this week, a friend of mrs SG had a bit of a rant on the Magpies' Facebook page about them not giving injury updates and no info whatsoever about rep games (we had talked about that on the weekend, or rather, I complained and she said I should "do something" about it, but I hesitated). She has since removed her post, but it may have had some effect.

They have posted the U19s line-up for Saturday's curtain raiser against Hurricanes Heartland U20.

No Cooper Flanders and Mefi Tupou, obviously, because they'll travel with the NZU19s to South Africa on Sunday (I think). Also no Harry Godfrey, who - depending on the injuries suffered by McClutchie and Makene - may play for the Magpies.

    Farah Palmer Cup Championship Final

Otago Spirit v Hawke's Bay Tui
    Sat 10 September 2022
    Kick-off 12.35pm
    Live on Sky Sport 2

Emma Jensen's last rugby game, but not lost to rugby. Not only is she a member of the HB Rugby board; she's also directly responsible for the development of the next generation of female rugby players in part of the Bay. She leads Hastings Girls' rugby programme (the only one for girls in the Bay). Her likely successor in the Tui 9 jersey, Kahlia Awa, is one of her current students.

Didn't get there in time for the Shield curtainraiser but was told it was something like HB Under 19s 39 Hurricanes Heartland Under 20s 17? Whatever it actually was it was a decisive margin in favour of the Bay. Did not feel sorry in the slightest for Darren Larsen who looked very morose outside the visitor's changing rooms when I went past them. Naturally I gave him a wave and a smile as I went past!

@Stargazer OK I'll believe you but either way it was a kick up the bum for Mr. Larsen.
