Wtf
That was terrible reffing. At no stage did we have advantage?
Halfback was asking him about time?
But he misses. Lucky.

guess the right outcome, however the maze of a way to get it...

@Stargazer on saying that this Northland team is way fitter than they were last year , if they had the same fitness levels as last year ,it probably doesn’t matter who started in the Naki team ..good for the comp don’t you reckon ..?

MOTM Poll for Northland Pick your 3
@Duluth dunno if it happened in your poll, hyphenated names, the 2nd name drops off?
-
Yeah it hates - or ‘ in names. I usually remove them from the names when I create a poll

WTF? How did they lose that?
I just got home from game an hour or so ago Kruse, they lost it because they finished nothing, should of been up by a lot more at halftime , they just blew stuff. Taniwha were bloody good for their fightback, and had feeling at game another 10 minutes they would of won by more. Good stuff by Taniwha and deserve all credit
Also add first time at Pukekura Park and it's a cricket ground and ground can't handle rugby I reckon.

so had some time to think about this game and how it went.
The thing that strikes the most, was before we scored what turned out to be the match winning try, we had spent over 6 minutes in thier 22, with no result, while 'naki had spent less than 30 seconds in ours I think it was - so clearly our attack needs work.
I was generally pleased with our defence, although too often we still have one man (usually Ranger or Hohaia who just rushes out ahead of the line, one time Ranger went about 5m past the carrier and slipped)
Another aspect I was really pleased with, our disipline, at times last year it was very poor.
Still cant quite fathom that closing couple of minutes, we had it won, then lost, but still won...although think the ref got it wrong telling Milo-Harris there was time when there clearly wasnt given 5 sec later time was up.
The other positive, is that that team that started, and finished strongly, isnt the best 15 we can put out (on paper at least)
Assuming fitness, the changes I'd be looking at for next round is bringing Robinson back, maybe move Rush to 8, toss up between Matich and Mau'u, I really like the way Matich plays, but thought Mau'u was very good.
Start Kauika-Peterson, as Moulds didnt look good going off, and his throwing was off.
I'd be inclined to give Milo-Harris another run, Nock off the bench.
In the backs, I'd start Going at 13, Heremaia at 14 (or the other way around) and push Ranger to the bench, Pisi wouldnt be in my 23, the guy makes far too many poor defensive reads and leaves his wing, ideally who ever is inside, should should be telling him to stay out as he simply drifts in leaving huge areas exposed.

I'd prefer Mau'u/Matich/Robinson
Someone has to play considerably better than Matich to force him out of the side IMO. Northland isn't always the smartest side.. Matich improves that. I think it would be dangerous to leave out Matich and Moulds even if Robinson is back
-
@Duluth fair point!
The most amusing/worrying part is Matich wasnt deemed good enough last year, but I'd argue he has been one of our better and most consistent players of the past few years (hell, probably since he joined in 2016)
-
I assume he won't play this week though. Didn't he fail an HIA?
-
I like Matich at 7. His work over the ball looks way improved from what I remember. Would have Mau’u coming on late, and a loose trio of Tom, Rush at 8 and Matich starting. Would probably bring Hallam-Eames in for Matiu on the bench too.
My theories will probably be completely wrong, but just my two cents. Loving the opportunity to even have these debates now, something we haven’t had the luxury of in the past.
