You’re going to have to explain about the Welsh player now. I’m interested.
Yeah, sorry - smashed after going to the Malthouse today, and trying to work my way through 29 WCIPAs from last night's NZ WCIPA challenge still on tap.
I was alluding to some prick who recently made some stupid twitter challenge... he'd made some comment about rugby/concussion/dementia... another international player's wife had called him out on it comparing it to "would you say the same thing to somebody who got skin cancer despite sunbathing", then he invited her to meet up in person for a fight.
Or some shit.
Sorry - really wanted to find the tweet, use it as a quote - but too smashed. Should have just omitted that bit completely.
MIght not have even been a Welsh git, could easily been another nationality... we've all got them. Was just trying to include some sport-relevant linkage.Andy Powell responding to Gareth Anscombe's wife's post about Ryan Jones
Chur bro - that's the one.

@antipodean not sure too many have gone to the level of Taken 4 or whatever one it was...
Wasn't that the one where his budgie got kidnapped?

By-The-Way... (BTW)...
I seem to recall there's been at least one Ferner claiming(/bragging?) that they've never seen a single John Wick movie.
Give yourself a fucking massive upper-cut, then, when your stupid head is lying on the floor mouth agape, take your dick'n'balls and give yourself a wee tea-baggin'.John Wick movies are not clever. They are not original. They ARE derivative. But they also ARE a metric-fuck-tonne of fun.
If any fluffybunny claims to like classics such as Commando, Rambo, any HK-era-Woo, any Hollywood-era-Woo, any fucking stupid-fun-guns-and-shit-action-movies-of-EVER...
but NOT John Wick... you're either a lying hipster dipshit, a dead-set liar fluffybunny, a straight-up stupid fluffy-bunny, or fluffy-bunny retard.
AND... (Sorry - meant to find the quote from the retard Welsh player who threatened the wife of another player on twitter, and cleverly re-use that, and... just couldn't. Brain-too-dumb from watching stupid derivative americanised versions of gun-fu movies.)I feel bad for never watching a John Wick movie now.
Actually no I don’t, it’s offensive you’ve mentioned it in the same sentence as Commando.

@bayimports My kids, Marcel, Star Wars and Disney fans, thought this movie was crap. Waititi needs to hang it up. Marvel continues to put out trash. First Dr Stange was good. Second not so. Has gone down hill since End Game.

Not much of a marvel fan but it sounds like they’re doing the Star Wars thing, releasing a shitload of content with extremely inconsistent quality.

im a big Marvel fan...but yeah, i will concede its all just getting hard to follow
in saying that, i much prefer the second dr strange to the first one...really wasn't a fan of the first...thought it was the worst example of the problem with origin stories...there just isn;t the time to tell the origin AND fight off a big bad...a relatively new magician was able to get good enough to fight of a whole gang of well trained magicians AND a super powerful "being" from another dimension
-
@Kiwiwomble Not being a big marvel fan and just going to the movies because my kids like them I would have never thought of that but you make good points. What I liked about it was it’s uniqueness with all the dimension stuff. Plus Rachel Macadam isn’t that bad.

10... I think.
But - I've got a stupid thing whereby I refuse to order a half-pint, so... forced into trying them all a full pint at a time.
Also - it's worth noting, the hours on their website are wrong... so I'd gone ALL the way into town (a 5 minute walk), found it closed - so then was forced into having a couple of wee (pint-sized) warm-up drinks at Panhead first. -

Everyone knows you get more beer per dollar by ordering a full pint instead of a half. The Scotsman in me would definitely rather risk drink driving than get ripped off over a beer.

See... I've been looking at the size of what's being served up in most places as "half-pints"... and I reckon the Scot in you might want to re-consider.
Choice Bros, for example - I've recently deigned to do half-pints of their higher-booze offerings, as that's the only way they sell them. But they come in those glasses the shape of a can. I've got one of them at home, merch from Hot Water Brewing... and therefore know perfectly well that they hold bang-on 440ml to the brim. (Just re-confirmed, poured an 8-Wired Sunrise Express)
(I do wonder if they're filling mine to the brim though, whereas they normally don't? Or if they're otherwise giving me a different "half-pint" to the normal scum clientele. They do give me the "hospo" discount... as a favoured and valued (/valuable) customer.)(Edit: if only there was an appropriate thread for all this discussion. BTW: Beervana, anybody?)

Yeah I went last year, group of mates booked in for the early session. Stumbling out pissed as fuck in broad daylight is never a good look. If I go this year we’ll do the late one.

I did an early session last year, with a mate "in the industry", blagged our way into the KegStar provided lunch for the staff, then hung around for the late session. Didn't make it to the end... one of the few times we were both grown-up enough to admit defeat in front of the other.

Fistful of Vengeance
Netflix attempt at SE-Asia martial arts
(Failed attempt)This wasn't great.
I don't know why americans can't do great martial arts movies.- They take Jet Li, and create sci-fi-kung-fu abomination "The One". (I will watch that again, several times, it's a guilty pleasure - but it's fucking shit compared to his "Once Upon A Time In China..." days)
- They take Jackie Lee, and turn him into a clown. (Sure - to be fair, this wasn't so much of a change... I haven't watched much of his earlier stuff, other than Drunken Master(s) - and he was already acting the clown in those)
- They take Iko Uwais, and come up with... this.
I don't know how... but they took the idea of "take the dude from The fucking RAID, but with supernatural powers, throw in some TV-level sidekicks, and throw them up against a generic supernatural baddie"... and made it boring.
- Ahh... actually, now that I read that... yeah, that is fucking boring.
Anyway...
- Tit-watch - 1. As in 1 pair. During 1 soft-lensed-to-fuck sex-scene montage. 2 titties... 1 pair. Mocha ones. Quite substantial - larger than expected. More graphic than expected, coz... Netflix. But, yeah, non-zero tit-watch.
- Action: lots. But... maybe it was because my interest was wandering, .... boring.
- Best/worst pep-talk: "Just Stop it! All of you! You're acting like children! Do I have to remind you we're fighting a God? You say you're a family... you're not acting like a family. Not one that's about to save the world... because you cannot even take care of another! ... Yes you can. ... Just get over your anger. ... Your guilt. ... Your ego. ... You might actually have a chance... you really might. So... let's remind ourselves, why are we here?" "For Jenny." "She's right" "I'm an idiot." "No I'm an idiot." No I'm a fucking idiot". For fuck's sake.
- Music... good taste in music, but very poorly suited to the movie. I fucking love a sweet Run The Jewels banger... and normally it would fit perfectly with a fight in the middle of the streets with cleavers. But in a dirty Bangkok market street... not quite.
-- Knees-and-elbows to the head in dirty Bangkok streets - do NOT match with ANY modern western music. I don't know why - but they don't.
-- drinking shitty buckets of cheap spirits and cheap mixers on Khao-San road - yeah, 100% matches with the latest modern western music being played on high-rotation. But leave not brutal martial arts. - To be fair, I wasn't paying much attention. Maybe some of the nonsensical yet bland plot... would have made more sense... if it had fucking held my attention better. How the fuck does a SE-Asia martial arts movie not hold my attention? That's my jam.
- The ending... just... what the actual fuck. It's like they watched some old wire-fu climaxes on hanging ropes, and decided to try that out, but under the supernatural big-top, and in the most boring fashion EVER. Fuck these guys.
(Edit: just accidentally re-watched some of that end/climax while confirming some other points (yeah... confirming the tit-watch). That end-scene... fucking embarrassing! <canadian accent>) - At least they didn't go for the "guys fight the guys, girls fight the girls" artificial separation of duties. They had guys absolutely wailing on the ladies with sticks and shit. I don't know if that's... progress or misogyny?
I'm going to suggest... maybe 2 bullshit green necklaces out of 5 powerless gods.
Instead - go watch The Raid, Ong Bak, Once Upon a Time in China (1,2,3), Burning Paradise (whatever happened to THAT dude?)

@Nepia said in Movie review thread...:
@Kruse I think you made the same mistake as I did. This is a movie of a Netflix TV show. So the TV level sidekicks fit perfectly.
I too thought it was an actual movie.
Ha - yeah, cheers... I did wonder - when I did some cursory side-research, I half-noticed something about a TV-show, but was too focused on confirming who each TV-level sidekick actor was, to follow up on that.
That also might explain that maybe I hadn't missed as much as I thought... the "Into the Badlands" guy suddenly having a nemesis to fight, that I was sure I'd never seen before.
And the negligible backstory about blond-dreads chick just appearing and being a thing.
