That game looked like it was being sponsored by the Early Onset Dementia clinic. Great game but you wonder how long it can keep being played in that way due to future lawsuits.
this post makes me sad

@bayimports with all the passion, emotion and occasion - Suncorp, what a stadium and atmosphere - it really was the simple things done well that set it up for Qld. The Blues couldn’t get quick play of the balls, credit Qld forwards.
No space for a very good Blues halves combination and despite their immense talent were made to look ordinary.
Field position, field position, field position.
Mistakes and pressure. That Tupou dropped catch was a weird one. Where he positioned himself it was as if he didn’t really want to catch as he didn’t move his body into line.
Brilliant game changing plays. 40/20, the one on one strip and Hunt try

@ACT-Crusader pressure on the NSW halves was one thing, but the clear strategy and execution of the QLD kicking game, was second to none. NSW were always coming out of trouble for large parts of the second half with no answer (except errors from the pressure).
but I entirely agree with everything else!

that's coaching
Qld had what, 3? of the greatest players of the modern era to sort shit out.
Two of them learned about coaching from a details guy like Bellamy.
Whereas Freddie seems like a "vibe and mabo" type coach, so NSW changed nothing, just seemed to wait for the first half routine to kick back in. And when it didn't the players on the field did nothing until it was all too late.

yeah, I agree entirely, execution in that environment is practice though. This part amazes me the ABs aren't doing this as part of core routines daily (and if they are, its not showing!)
Freddy can't coach (well at least tactically), there is a key reason he failed at the roosters of all places. However is is one NSW favorite sons, blah blah
doesnt make you part of one of leagues greatest brains trust like Qld have available though

and i guess that was a nice advantage of Hunt and DCE, two guys who have been at the top end of the sport for a long time, and have plenty of Origin experience as well.
Hunt cops a lot of shit but the Dragons would be the Tigers without him
And i have yelled at DCE in a Maroon jersey more than i am proud of, but by christ the lad can step up.

The field position strategy through early and deep kicking was fantastic. NSW burnt a lot of energy in their own half. So when they did get in their half to attack, they didn’t match the intensity of the Qld defenders IMO.

You could switch Blues for ABs and Reds for Irish

@mariner4life sorry bro, I was just reminded of something Beattie said about 20 years when he went on a visit to NZ and said something like “Qld is NZ’s best friend” and then someone replied, “you mean just the Gold Coast”
