@george33 I think @taniwharugby is right and this is just a stupid case of rotation. They just rotated the wrong player, because coaches fail to see he's a 10 who plays fullback (not the other way around).

This is a microcosm of the problems in NZ Rugby at the moment - coaches not willing to make a tough call. This selection makes the Maori team look less like a high performance team and more like a under age team where everyone gets to play. Suofoa, Poihipi and Zarn all get canned... for what reason exactly? So Prinsep can get a game? Perenara starts over Weber why? As a thank you for his service to NZ rugby?

I don't think this team is run like that. It's essentially a Baabass style team with all players being given a go.

@Crucial Josh Moorby 1st Try scorer at the cake tin might just be too good to refuse, then again I've felt like a right idiot when the Irish have pounced first the last two Saturdays😭

@Nepia It should be playing low tier teams then, not Ireland.

It can't be treated as a professional team and managed like a social side.

I think that if it was NZA instead of the Maori team it would be run the same way. They want to see as many players as possible. (Not saying I agree or disagree with it, just saying this is how I think the teams are directed).

The idea of seeing as many players as possible I could get on board with if they didn't select no hopers like Prinsep and Apisai. Why not try Howden at 6? Another one who isn't even in the 23.

There was always going to be some rotation. Who misses out across the 2 games? Nock might be the only player.

Interesting that Dickson isn't in the 23, so must still be with the ABs and/or baby-watch.

@Bovidae Nocks partner had a baby last week, so will have been unavailble for part of the build up anyway...and with TJ & Webber, you wonder why they went to him knowing he'd possibly be unavailable (especially if she was overdue)

Was funny he re-posted a picture of himself training prior to the 1st Maori match, and his comment was 'foodbill'

@taniwharugby Nock did lead the haka, so they put him to some use. 🙂

    Can't argue with that. 🙂

Well Baabaas play tier 1 teams, and do similar. I understand more or less as Nepia says that's how Maoris has always been picked whether we like it or not.
I can understand the angst of leaving out some of those bloody good performers from 1st game, but I think the Maoris should stick to how they normally do things really. Though I agree like to see Howden etc play, but I think also would depend on how things go in camp?

Looking forward to this, there is no way a chucked together team which has social player selecting policies, and fucking Princep could be as much of a rabble as a team coached by foster. Few beers with the boys will help, too

My assumption based on this team is that they've probably promised everyone selected in the Maori squad initially will get game time at some point, but I could be wrong.

That's why even though for example Zarn was superb in the first game, Josh Moorby has been handed the 15 jersey.

    McMillan says that:

“The first match was really special, with nine debutants up against Ireland and this week the remaining three debutant players get that same opportunity to represent not only the team but their whānau and their iwi.”

@Crucial it's one of the worst days we've had in a long time in Wellington today. Very windy and stormy out there at the moment, hopefully it dies down by kick off.

Yeah, I have come into work prepared to stay for the game with fingers crossed but if it stays like this I don't think I will be the only one to head home.
The weather will curtail the play so I don't expect to see the same entertainment as last game.
If there looks to be a few Irish supporters around there's always the option of joining any fun at a pub or the stadium concourse
