Sadly, unless an absolute miracle happens, you guys are going to be (over the course of the season), likely the worst NZ team.
There are no systems to do anything about that, and even though its not the main reason for their success, the Saders are incredibly hard to knock off their perch when there is nothing to stop them hovering up the best young talent, while keeping much of the best senior talent.
Edit: by the way, I think the halfback signing is a bit different to that. That’s likely the best place for talent distribution given the Lander resources.

@FakatavaAllBlack and Jordie, but he left Canterbury when the Canes were on top.

@gt12 the past two seasons we've had Lio-Willie, Tavatavanawai & Josh Moorby all in our wider training squad.. failed to lock them in to full contracts!!
That's a pretty sad indictment on the Landers.
What's your analysis?
Is it that they get close (indicating the identification part is working), but then never get a chance (e.g., the coaches are fucking it up by not using the talent they have and then losing it)?

I'm pretty sure Moorby got injured playing club rugby for Dunedin last year. He was in the WTG and just got struck down with injuries at the wrong time. He probably would have had an opportunity or two on the wing if it wasn't for that poorly timed injury. Timoci Tavatavanawai, I think at the time he hadn't even played a game for Ta$man and was just seen as too much of a risk. The side then picked 'safe' players due to poor results up front and managed to string some results together I'm the Trans Ta$man comp. I guess that's the difference between the likes of the Crusaders and the Blues. Those squads are packed full of talent, so a risky selection has plenty of protection. They can play their own game without the fear of failure. At the Highlanders, they have Aaron Smith and stuff all else in terms of proper top quality leadership. Because of this there is a reliance of selecting what coaches may consider safe players, like Gregory amongst others. Sadly failing to take the risk has seen quality players taken right out from underneath the noses of the franchise.
